Rating a Brazilian barbecue steak house is always a challenge for me. I was lucky to have experienced some very good and inexpensive steak restaurants in Brazilian country side as well as some top restaurants in São Paulo, so I fear my standards may be just too high in this area. With this in mind, it was tough to give 3 stars to Churrascaria Nova Brescia. My experience is as follows: I just went to this restaurant for dinner on Monday along with a Dutch research delegation and some members of a local university; there were about 20 people in our party. Mondays are generally slow for churrascarias, so even though the host at the local university had made reservations, the experience must be calibrated accordingly. The night started out well with a standard appetizer of pasteis, fries and farofa. I had a beer and most of our Dutch friends ordered caipirinhas. The sides bar was fresh, had good variety of salads, cold sea food sides and cheeses; this was not the most impressive sides I've seen in Brazilian barbecue houses, but it was pretty good for São José standards. As for the barbecue rodizio, the service started out slowly. Although it is standard for these steak houses to start with their C level meats such as chicken and pork medallions, I think they took a bit long to bring out their A/B material, e.g. picanha, ribs and filet mignon. Most of their meat tasted pretty fresh. The BBQ chef seemed to know his cooking times and did not over salt the meat. The price was standard for São José, about R$130.00 for two people with one beer a person, which means on par with mid-level São Paulo prices, but not with the same quality and variety. The waiters and the manager were nice and courteous and overall our Dutch guests seemed to have enjoyed themselves. In conclusion: Although the food was not in the standard I'm used to, the night was pleasant enough to warrant a second chance. I will try my best to follow-up with them on a Friday or Saturday night, and I'll be more comfortable to praise them or crucify them accordingly.

The place is well located, but has no parking lot. It is easy to find places to park and the have internal and external seating. Comparing to similar restaurants, the food quality is a little better, but prices are higher.

I am (used to be) a big fan of this restaurant.Food is good, I mean, the fish is goodNothing special about the appetizers, nothing special about the salad, nothing special about the rice that comes with that fish, nothing special about anything else....Yet, everything is extremely priceyThey charge five little pieces of fish 125 reais, that is expensive...Unless you love the fish I recommend you to avoid this place.I think the owners became too greedy!

If you're fond of meat but want to avoid a "rodÃzio", this is the place. Excelent beef, nice waitors, reasonable price. After your meal, go downstairs and have a wonderful cup of cofee with a Portuguese desert at the stand the Portuguese restaurant Cassiano has in the first floor of the mall.Hey, thank you for your positive evaluation! We hope you come visit us more often!
