Classic French cuisine with contemporary touches. In the lounge, the best selection of jazz and MPB (Brazilian popular music).
We had one night in Recife - just to make plane connections - and had the good fortune to walk into Mingus. What a delightful, professional experience. Fine service, food and piano music. When we arrived, there was only one other table occupied and we were concerned. But it was just timing. By the time we left, the restaurant was almost full. There was a staff member who spoke English and could accommodate our requests. The restaurant is around the corner from the Best Western hotel. While a highly professinal, white tablecloth restaurant, the diners were of all ages and from casual to elegantly dressed.

We ate lunch here after a visit to the "Marco Zero" and the surrounding quarters which are pretty run down. Consequently, our surprise was great when we found the Leite in this neighborhood. Waiters in white jackets and the piano man playing some romantic Latin tunes. The menu continued in this mode by offering dishes named after Gilberto Freyre and Burle Marx. I had the plate with beef named after Gilberto Freyre and my wife had the seafood plate according to Burle Marx. Both were delicious.

Almost at the frontier between "Pina" and "Boa Viagem" quarters in Recife, and not far from the beach, you will find "Trattoria Toscana". At a cozy atmosphere, with nice décor, romantic lighting and friendly service, this restaurant brings Italian contemporary cuisine to Recife's gastronomy scene! Reservations are recommended at all times, as it gets quite busy oftenly. Delicious and tasty dishes at mid-range prices. A nice wine list completes the scene. Bon Appétit!

This restaurant is situated right on the orla. You can look out and enjoy the lovely ocean breeze. Service was helpful and attentive. We chose two seafood appetizers that were excellently prepared and had great attention to detail. The octopus was finely sliced and served simply and elegantly. The shrimp panelada? had great slow cooked flavors. Apps were served with crispy baguette slices. Just wonderful. We will return again without a doubt.

Food was tasteful, well prepared but nothing really different or surprising. Portions are relatively small, considering the waiting time. Service was poor. Sunday lunchtime and the house had only 3 waiters to serve c.a. 12 tables / 4 to 6 guests each. Dishes took more than 40 min to be ready.

Since 1980, Recanto Lusitano is the place to go in Recife to taste the marvelous portuguese cousine.Their staff is very dedicated, and the place is very pleasant to stay (always playing traditional portuguese songs). The speciality is obviously the many ways you can try Cod Fish, or "Bacalhau" as it's called in portuguese. As entrance try fried "Alheiras" (a type of portuguese sausage that is served with bread and lemon). A lighter option would be a soup called "Caldo Verde".Main course must be any type of Cod Fish, try "Bacalhau às Natas", a type of Cod fish soufflé with smashed potatoes and cheese. Rice also comes as a side dish with it. The portion will be enough for three people.Put a lot of olive oil on and eat as much as you can because you'll never forget the flavour. To drink, a good white wine from Alentejo is perfect.

The Nez Bistro is a French-Italian restaurant located in the district of Casa Forte/Recife. Opened in December 2007, works in a townhouse of the seventeenth century.
Ate there while in town for the holidays with a family friend. It was a Wednesday evening around 9pm and it was fairly crowded, though the area upstairs was less so. First, the building itself has a lot of character and simply arriving makes you excited about eating there (particularly given the number one TA rating). The crowd was definitely upscale, suggesting it is the "it" place in town to be seen. There is definitely a wine focus for this restaurant (Nez means "nose" in French), with bottles lining the walls. I was not overly impressed with the diversity of wine, but we found a good bottle to enjoy. We shared the bacalhau appetizer, which was better than I have had in the past. I had the filet au poivre entree, which was much different than I am used to in the US - not spicy at all and fairly sweet, almost like American barbecue sauce. It was good, but the meat was not as soft as I would have hoped for in a filet mignon. We shared the apple pie dessert and it was delicious. The service was just ok - nothing wrong really, just that our server was not as present as I would have liked him to be. Overall I would definitely go back, but I would try a different entree.

Tio Armenio is the sort of restaurant we like to go on Sundays with our family or friends. Good food at reasonable prices, very good service and excellent locations, since it is located at both of our main shopping malls.
