As it happened I was in Salvador during the 'Dia do Samba' (Dec 2) and the 'Festa de Santa Barbara' (Dec 4-6), so plenty of action in the streets, especiall around the Praça Anchieta, where the restaurant 'Odoya' is located. Almost all people were dressed in red and white - in honour of 'Iansã', the Candomblé Goddess of the Winds, who had been syncretized with Saint Barbara. The restaurant 'Odoyá' on the other hands refers in its name to 'Iemanjá', the beautiful 'Mother of the Seas', who gets ritually greeted with the word 'Odoyá'.There is outdoor seating (the most popular part) with some live music. When there a guitar playing man was singing international oldies like 'Guantanamera' and 'Olaré..Cantaré'. Thus really a place meant to attract tourists.I sat in the rather empty interior and ordered a 'Couvert Baiano' with local specialities. It arrived incredibly fast and the various items had been put in a compartment plate. It consisted of 'Acarajé' (the popular pea balls fried in Dendé palm oil, which often get sold also at stands in the streets). Another dish was 'Abará's', again made from peas, but steamed inside banana leaves instead of deep fried. It also had 'Vatapá', a purée made with different ingredients, and just plain 'Camarões' (shrimps). The Acarajé and Abaras have to be eaten with a sauce, which was also served in a small bowl, otherwise they are pretty bland. With it I drank a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, which was served the correct way, unlike at another more expensive place the evening before. On the other hand the waiting staff (the women in traditional Baiana costume) was surprisingly unfriendly and they hardly uttered a word. Greetings here are obviously not meant for the guests, just for the mother of the seas.

Ocean View with outside Tables, Bahian and international Cuisine, Swiss management, Honest Homemade Comfort Food.
We decided to try this restaurant, as we wanted to seat outside on a terrace and try some Brazilians dishes; the capirinha was good, the dishes nothing special, the service friendly and the seating excellent.

Laid back, slighty hippyish veggie restaurant in lovely building in bohemian Rio Vermelho. Limited opening hours if I remember right but as long as you check in advance you will really enjoy the arty canteen style atmosphere and range of imaginative vegetarian food.

With more than 55 years of history, the Chez Bernard restaurant in Gamboa de Cima reopens the public of Salvador at the end of 2018. Since 1963, opened by the French Monsieur Bernard, offers legitimate French cuisine and a cozy atmosphere, embellished by
I went to this restaurant expecting great service, food and wine.To start, a poor couvert, bread, butter, horrible chicken fois pate and a ok chutney, expensive 15 per person.A bottle of wine costs 3 to 4 times the price in a wine store, totally unacceptable.I asked a magret de canard with cara pure. Cara is a tipe of mandioc. The magret was overcooked and the pure had truffles oil. terrible mixture, Cara does not match with truffles. I sent it back and didn't received any feedback about it. The next plate I ordered, had to be cancelled 15 minutes later due to a lack of ingredients: tuesday night, empty restaurant and lack of ingredients? I decided no to eat. When I tried my girlfriend Gnocchi... again terrible disapointment... absolutelly overcooked. Like a pure...Well, in the end, the view is the only good thing you'll find in this place. If you want a French restaurant, try another city, because my beloved Salvador, dos not have one that is worth a visit. To finish, the maitre, wearing a suit, was smilling at me like, this guy sucks... So.... don't try this one.Other great options in Salvador:JAPANESE: SOHO, at Marina Bahia.MEAT: 496 GRILL, close to Marina Bahia.LOCAL SPECIALTIES: PARAÃSO TROPICAL, the famous, cozy and trendy... fantastic. There's also a cheaper option: DONANA, 2 locations: BROTAS and VILAS DO ATLANTICO, simple place, but fantastic food!!! Try a moqueca de camarão(shrimp) or ensopado de camarão.SUNSET HAPPY HOUR: AQUA, at Marina Bahia...Have fun in Salvador!!!!

The Villa Bahia Restaurant offers a contemporary, unconventional gastronomy with French "savoir-faire", prepared only with local ingredients, from small producers in the region and selected in the rich diversity of flavors and the Bahia accent. The chef,
Probably the most highly trained chef--has worked in Europe--commands this handsome dining room. Bahaian specialites and traditional Continental fare as well (like rack of lamb). We all started w the house salad which we enjoyed. I and a friend shared the Moqueta with clams, shrimp, fish, and bell peppers. Many of the plates serve two.

The view is majestic, the whole bay is there for full enjoyment, which makes any meal way more pleasant! The restaurant is specialised on seafood but meat-eaters do find good options as well; portions could perhaps be more generous, especially due to the high price charged! The place is often full with snobbish "soteropolitanos" (locals), not that pleasant. Other than that, a very good choice!

Family restaurant that works with concepts of affective culinary using the family memories as reference.
We came to the restaurant 20.00 without reservation. It took us approximately 2 hours to get a table. No problem with that, but during the waiting no one came out and gave us any updates or asked if we wanted something more to drink or eat. After getting our table, we ordered our main courses and it took 55minutes to get our food. Food was ok, the fettuccine with shrimp and pesto was a disappointment. Shrimp were to overcooked and very dry. So like the title, ok food but slow kitchen and so-so service. Hi!We apologize for your experience. Yes, the kitchen was a little bit slower than normal yesterday because we were working with one cook less. Sorry for that, we can assure that this is not normal. We think that the lack of communication (because of language) its a thing we need to adjust in our service, especially at the waiting room. However, it's good to receive feedbacks like this, so then we can do better and better. The only thing we think you should have done when you tasted the shrimp dish is to have questioned immediately, so we could give to you a proper one, or fix it in other way.Grateful,Gabriel G.Manager
