Italian restaurant, but don't fool yourself: go for pizza and forget the rest, they don't even come close to the perfection of the pizza they serve! A little pricey for pizza, but it's worth it. For dessert, try the ice cream with nuts and apple sauce and petit gateu. The decór is adorable, with a mix of vintage dining tables and chairs, and old pictures of Maceió on the walls, along with old radios and telephones. You can see the pizza being prepared and there's a playground for kids.

The restaurant physical environment is attractive and inviting: good for romantic dinners, family dinners or even business dinners. However, this restaurant is floating on its past performance or reputation, but does not deliver in any way. We had a soup and a pasta, both overly salty, this took all possible rich flavours away. My pasta sauce was also dominated by a Rosemary, but too overdone. A plate of pasta with sauce for 54 BRL is on the high end of pricing, even for Brazilian standards, but Massarela's pastas can go up to 95 BRL which can buy you a good dinner for two in Maceió. Remember, this still is a plate of pasta....There are many staff members present, both most of them chitchat in groups of 2, 3 or 4 in various hangouts throughout the large restaurants. They do not perceive any client's needs like a professional should. The waitresses transport plates back and forth to tables, but have no clue of waiting and serving. The boss (lady) is bossing the girls around in front of clients. Not very nice. Payment: the restaurant accepts two brands of credit cards and for the rest only cash. No standard debit bank card electronic payments offered, this must be the on.y place for n this this upscale neighbourhood that does not accept PIN payments (in Brazil: the ELO system). So I had to travel back to get cash money. Why would an upscale restaurant (price wise) practically only accept cash? For waiters taking too long to spot a client in need, for offering an unsafe and fraud-risky cash only policy, for making a client go back to his hotel and walk with larger cash amounts in the streets at night (not safe in this neighbourhood), Massarella requests a service fee of 10%. Which they do not deserve, also because the staff is required to have hourly wages or fixes salaries by law. So what justifies the service fee? I cannot answer this question. If the food had been up to standards of Massarella's price points I could have forgiven part of the service flaws, but it wasn't. Massarela's presentation is promising, but it is an expensive and unpleasant deception. and I had much better Italian cuisine throughout Brazil for lower prices.

This restaurant is now run by the second generation of its founders. Great italian food, the atmosphere is that of a true napolitan cantina: dark, loud and rustic. Pictures of costumers covers the stone walls. The pizza is by far the best one in Maceió, with its thin crust and really cheesy topping. You can both choose from the many options on the menu or make your own choice of ingredients for your very own pizza style. The Filet Del Poppolo is stuffed with mozzarella and ham and is delicious and huge (three people can eat and feel completely full) and the prices are reasonable. Weekend nights are REALLY busy, with an wait list and all, so get there early. Most dishes are big, and it's common to see many families with kids (there's no playground), so gather your hunger and your pacience and enjoy!

Not sure where the last reviewer ate but it couldn't have been at this restaurant. Beautiful ambiance, live music, eclectic clientele, and straight up authentic Italian cuisine. Didn't have the pizza, but it's what they're known for and many tables around us seemed to be enjoying it. We had bruschetta, calzone, eggplant and penne. The food was outstanding. Service was good, though you need to be animated to get the waiters attention. I find this to be the norm in the North East though. Only thing they could improve is to have a few fans installed as it can be quite hot with a full restaurant. I will return and recommend.

I went to Basilico Ristorante for dinner and had a wonderful time. The evening began with a very fine caipirinha and continued with a very good meal. I had lasagne and my partner had the garlic shrimp. Both meals were delicious. The staff was attentive and we had great fun with them even though there was the language barrier. I would definitely return.Cari amici, é stato un grande piacere ospitarvi nel nostro angolino d'Italia. In America ci sono molti ristoranti Italiani autentici ma adesso anche qui a Maceio si possono degustare le prelibatezze della mia amata terra: La Toscana. Grazie a presto Lory
