The Anmara Cottage was an amazing spot for our 3 night stay on Skye. It was spotlessly clean and really had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. My sister and I loved the quiet rural location right at the base of the Quiraing and it was an easy drive to Portree. The views over the ocean and open fields from the cottage were breathtaking. The central location on the Trotternish Peninsula meant that nearly all of the sites we came to see were nearby which made sightseeing easy. The owner, Mairi, was so nice and had breakfast items there for us and she gave us great tips for the area. The property is private and quiet and even had a cute friendly lamb, in the fenced area directly in front of the cottage. Gorgeous views and we even got to see Northern Lights thanks to Mairi texting us to take a look outside, even though she had left for Glasgow earlier in the day. Staying at the Anmara Cottage helped make Skye the highlight of our trip to Scotland!

This will be a bit of a contradictory review. Firstly, Staff House Apartments are very large, clean and modern. They are kept in excellent condition with deep carpet throughout, a very well equipped kitchen, basic living room and large bedroom. It is very clear the apartments are well looked and after and invested in. However...they struggle to accommodate 5 people. We were two adults and three children (9,7,3). The sleeping accommodation is a double bed in the bedroom and one pull out sofa in the living room. Which meant we had, to sleep the 3 yr old on a short, narrow couch which we turned to the wall to stop her falling out. There were also only two quilts. Luckily we carry a sleeping bag in the car as travelling with 3 children is often a challenge. There is also very little storage space for clothes. There is nothing in the living room and in the bedroom are two sets of tiny drawers and a dressing table also with tiny drawers. (I managed to get underwear for 5 people in the drawers but nothing else.) The is hanging space but doesn't work very well for children's clothes. So I stored the children's clothes in bundles on the floor of the bedroom. These things were particularly noticeable because the apartment is so large and well looked after. They should comfortably sleep 5. There are very easy solutions that would have made a world of difference, such as stashing a wee zed bed somewhere and putting it into the apartment when 5 people book in. And putting an extra quilt out. Also, removing the dainty dressing table and replacing it with drawers where clothes could be stored. I would probably overlook these things if it were a budget apartment but at £120 a night, it's not cheap. The location is great for some of the local attractions such as dinosaur footprints which is right on Staffin beach. Old Man of Storr is a short drive and, if you are feeling flush the Michelin star Flodigarry Hotel is only 4 miles away. If you are arriving in Staffin late, come prepared. We arrived at 7.30pm on a Saturday night. We had been driving for 8 hours with kids in the car so didn't stop at Portree for provision as the kids were getting stressed. Wee were under the impression (the internet!) that there was a pub in Staffin where we could get pub grub. Also that there was a shop that we could stock up in the morning. Not quite. There is no pub. There is however a restauralnt which is a community/youth project and it closes at 8pm. We ditched our stuff and ran across getting dinner just in time. The shop closes at 6pm and is closed all day Sunday. We managed to buy little packets of cereal from the restaurant and had to use the tiny milks for tea and coffees provided by the apartments for the kids cereal. Which was at least a bit of a laugh. All in all this is lovely, large apartment. It is so well equipped in terms of cooking and household things, that a couple could move in and live in it. I would highly recommend the apartment in general. If however, you are traveling in a party of more than four, maybe request an extra bed in advance. And if you are a couple who like to spend a lot of time in the apartment, it will be a very comfortable, home from home stay. Also, the staff/owners were very pleasant and friendly. They live onsite which means you can sure and get hold of someone when you arrive, always welcome knowledge when you are likely to arrive stressed and tired!

We stayed here for only one night (though we would have liked to extend our stay - but we had other bookings for the following nights) and everything was just wonderful! The room was decorated very nicely, everything was sparkling clean and the host is very very friendly. The breakfast was delicious too and the view from the room was just amazing. The place is close to the Staffin beach and the Kilt Rocks. I must say that this was the greatest stay we had in Scotland during our one week trip and would recommend this to anyone looking for cozy accomodation on Skye Island.

Our hosts were very friendly and helpful, and we loved sitting in the front yard overlooking pastures, hills and the ocean beyond. The house was clean and comfortable and supplied with all the essentials plus extra personal touches. It is the perfect place to start day trips and hikes.
