Dirty and poorly maintained

We chose this hotel because it is conveniently located and has a pool. The website shows a newly renovated space. While it was recently renovated it has been heavily used and shows a lot of wear and tear. Our room was very dirty and I ended up cleaning the toilet, bathroom floor, entranceway floor and all high touch surfaces with disinfecting wipes.I wiped the entranceway floor down three times and the wipes were still black. The bathroom had hair, finger prints, and other yuck. We won’t be staying here again. Once was enough.

TERRIBLE STAYYYYY!!!!!!

Well the lady in the front was really rude, had the worst attitude, would not let us go in to our rooms at the beginning ( someone had booked the rooms for us). so the person literally had to come to talk to her to let us go to our room. After we got there and spend the night, they contacted the person who had gotten the rooms for us and told them they were getting fined because we were smoking in the room. well none of us smoke, one of the guys actually has respiratory problems so if there was smoking going on in the room we would have had a trip to the doctor. the fined was waved but we are now banned. i can get over a bad attitude, bad day or something but accuse us of smoking and banning us from a hotel when none of us smoke? is this really how American best value treat their guest???

Elevator STiLL out of order

Reviewed By Tracy31748

I regret having to write this, but we recently stayed at the Hampton Inn in Sturgis, MI. Hampton is our "go to" hotel when on the road and we have stayed at Hampton Inns all over the country. I have to say that the Hampton Inn in Sturgis does not live up to the standards I have found in other Hampton Inns. And I am sorry about this because it is so conveniently located for our regular trips from Western New York to Racine, WI to see grandchildren. Specifically my issues are: #1 - the elevator has been out of service for almost a year! My wife and I are 74 and hauling suitcases up and down stairs is not as easy as it once was. #2 - the breakfast was way below what I have usually found at Hampton Inns. The eggs were "OK" but the ham was this slices in boiling water - almost no taste! And no fresh fruit. #3 - we arrived about 9PM and found the person at the front desk, not rude, but rather disinterested. (and there were no cookies to snack on :-(. On the positive side, the room was clean and neat as usual and once in our room we were quite comfortable. This was our third or fourth stay at this facility, but it will be our last.

Last minute reservation with staff I could not understand

Reviewed By mustangjeanne

While on a road trip and tired, I made a last minute reservation for a Travelodge in what I thought was Sturgis, Indiana. I received my confirmation and it said Sturgis Michigan. I called the hotel to check and couldn’t understand the person who answered and was disconnected. When I got to the hotel, I realized it was not far from the Indiana/Michigan border. Checking in, again I couldn’t understand the clerk. I had reserved a king and requested 1st floor near an exit. My room was where I requested, but was a double double, which was okay. Once I finally got into bed I felt like I was in Carol Ann’s bedroom in the movie Poltergeist. Light from the hallway was shining in the room from around the door that was too small for the opening. I tried taking pictures of it, but only one partially came out. It is attached. Not a bad hotel for one night. I don’t know about multiple nights.
