Found high up on the Blue Ridge of the Appalachian Mountains, "The Tropical Grill" is here to give you an unexpected dining experience. As you exit off the Blue Ridge Parkway at Spruce Pine, NC, go to "Upper Street" in downtown Spruce Pine, across from the Wells Fargo Bank. Tropical Dishes from around the world... Not found anywhere in the mountains and in some cases nowhere else in the Continental United States, unique and original. Dishes from Central America, Colombia, Cuba, the Caribbean, Asia and of course all your favorite Country Style American Home Cookin'. Lunch and dinner includes a full deli and grill with our Philly cheese steak, ruebens, burgers, paninis, Cuban sandwiches and our famous "Riveria". Tropical selections for lunch and dinner include: Fish Tacos, a complete vegetarian and gluten free selection, our famous Tropi-chop platter, Pollo ala Plancha, Steak Argentina and our popular Quesadillas. We have a full line of salads, including our Caribbean salad, our Asian salad and our Greek Salad. Our Quatro Leche dessert cake is to die for! Dine in or take out. Catering is our specialty. PURCHASE OUR GUATEMALAN IMPORT PRODUCTS TO HELP SEND PROCEEDS TO THE MISSIONS IN Guatemala. By purchasing our Import products, you are helping the Guatemalan people in many ways. First you help put monies into the Mayan economy. This provides economic opportunities for entire villages that otherwise have very little hope. Secondly, proceeds from your purchase go back to the missions in Guatemala that provide a much needed medical service and supply. But most important, understand it is our primary task to reach each Guatemalan with the "Good News" of the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
It's been awhile since I've eaten at this small restaurant and I honestly can't remember what I had to eat. What I do remember was the great fun and belly laughs that I enjoyed from the uneven cement/sidewalk where our outdoor table sat...er...wobbled. My chair was just as bad. It actually sat back more than it should have. Picture this...each time I tried to sit up straight in the crooked chair to take a bite....the table would wobble the opposite direction. LOL....what fun! Well, really, I live in a small town and thrills are few!

We are a family owned and run coffee and baked goods shop. We use as much seasonal and locally sourced food as we can and are always adding to our list of local and organic farms and resources. It's important to us to only serve food that we love and are proud of, we bake everything that we serve in house. We serve locally roasted Counter Culture coffee and organic Rishi teas. On Saturdays we do a more decked out version of our fares that we have through the week- usually quiches, biscuits-N-gravy, French toast, English muffin toast, granola and organic yogurt with fresh fruit, homemade bagel sandwiches, grits, and sometimes made-to-order egg dishes. We bake custom ordered cakes, pies, and cookies. We can fulfill catering orders and have supplied snacks and meals for all kinds of events.
I've been lucky enough to have been a local when this great coffee shop opened. The drinks are handcrafted (I love the turmeric and ginger tea), the baked goods yummy (toasted English bread with homemade jam or giant gingersnaps or ...), and tasty lunch choices of locally-sourced salads and freshly-baked quiches.
The place is just the right size for a nice get-together with friends on a comfy sofa or a lunch meeting at a table.
Nice kids corner, too and The Burrow (perfect haircuts) is tucked into this place - bonus!

After hours riding the Blue Ridge Parkway, the temperature dropped and both rain and fog set in. So our group was ready for a stop and something warm! Right off the Blue Ridge in Little Switzerland (visible from the Parkway) is the Chalet Restaurant. We parked our bikes and ordered french onion soup and chicken tacos. Everything was hot, fresh, and our server was attentive but didn't hover. Great stop on the parkway, wish the taproom had been open- we'd have camped out and watched college football with a beer afterwards!

Casual to Semi-formal inside and outside seating. serving a wide variety of mouth watering entrees, with a friendly and family atmosphere.
Warm and welcoming restaurant and staff. Flat Iron Steak and the Angry Shrimp were as good as ever. Reasonable prices and great views even in winter. Will return when we return in the spring.

This hidden gem high in the NC mountains has something for everyone! Voted Best Coffee on the Blue Ridge parkway, and Best in WNC. We use fresh beans from Beanwerks in Asheville, NC, but it's our spring water and beautiful antique espresso machine that make all the difference. Come by during your travels, peruse the 30,000+ books, antiques, local arts and crafts, and of course sip on your favorite coffee drink! NOW serving smoothies and frappes as well. Indoor seating by the antique fireplace, or outside seating on our covered front porch. Located next to the Switzerland Cafe, home of killer sandwiches, barbeque, salads, and soups.
So this is a quaint bookstore/coffee shop and local artists gallery upstairs. This really cute gal Tamara has quite a selection of pastries, that can be devoured while enjoying a vast collection of fine literature. All in a lovely mountain setting!

We were at wells Fargo nearby and the teller recommended DT's . I was very disappointed. First, I ordered the special of the day which was a meat ball sub.
It was a half sized sandwich for 7.29. It should have been 4.99 . small sub. at full priced.
We ordered a cup of water and was charged 35 cents!!! I complained to the cashier, and told her she should have told us they were going to charge us for water. It was tap water!! I will inform the teller at Wells Fargo to not recommend this café.. terrible

Bethany was just delightful and gave perfect service for lunch. A spectacular view from the patio. Our sandwiches were so good and we had the best sweet potato fries. We had come to review the menu for an upcoming larger party. Very pleasant to walk around and sit down a bit in the Adirondack chairs. Very nice afternoon.
