Jamek has been an institution in the Wachau for decades now. Both for the lusciously comfortable atmosphere and the quality of everything promised...and delivered.
The location is very convenient if you are traveling along the Danube and visiting Melk or any little town such as Dürnstein. The wines both sparkling or plain white are produced in the property and are quite enjoyable. We had lunch and the service was very good. Menu in English!!!
Food was also very good, and our table outside (24ºC) was a good choice.

Walking back into town from the Red Gate we stopped at Notz for morning tea. Notz is diagonally opposite the church on a quiet street.
Coffees and cool drinks along with a selection of pastries ordered from the counter and collected and taken to our table. We sat on the street and watched the world go by.
Coffee was very strong (we were offered weak) which we enjoyed and the all the pastries were very good the favourite being the ricotta cannoli. Great little reward for the 4km walking.

We stayed in the apartment for 2 nights and can only say it was 5 star accommodation. The breakfast was outstanding, with a wide selection to choose from, the wine and the food was first class too. We will most definitely be regulars there.

We dined in this lovely and traditional austrian restaurant twice during our stay in this area and were very satisfied on both times. The ambience is very nice, the food tasty and the service very good. The portions are big enough and the prices are...MoreDear Guests! Thank you very much for your good rating and response. Prize-winning wines, homemade schnaps brandies, a small but exquisite restaurant, and a smattering of guest rooms to overnight in - plus desserts flowing from the local variety of apricot known as marille. The Prandtauerhof in Joching on the Danube is more than 700 years old. The Holzapfel family radiates Wachau hospitality and serves the best this exceptional region can come up with, both from cellar and kitchen.
I finally made it to Holzapfel with my cousin and her daughter yesterday. The experience was just perfect - a a fine dining experience based on Austrian standards. I had Blutwurst with the best homemade mustard that I've ever had. My cousin had an asparagus dish as it was asparagus season. Her daughter is a vegetarian. There weren't that many vegetarian dishes on the menu, but the chef happily whipped up some tasty spinach dumplings for her. There is a great selection of wines. I should add that our waitress could not have been more charming and helpful - also English-speaking. The eating area for the summer is in a charming outdoor courtyard that is just lovely. The restaurant itself is located in the stunning Wachau so the drive there is fabulous. I've now been living in Austria for the past ten years and Holzapfel was one of my best dining experiences. Go!

We had a very nice meal here. I had a gnocchi dish which was wonderful with some sort of seeds in it and other unexpected flavoring in the sauce. I couldn't figure it out and I couldn't communicate with server to figure out a name in English. But it was a very light tasty flavorful dish. It was probably my favorite dish during out week biking tour between Linz and Vienna. The rest of the food we had was also good.
If you go during nice weather you can sit outside with a view towards the Danube in one direction and vineyards in the other.

Our group had a wonderful meal in this charming restaurant: traditional Austrian fare with fresh flair. The food was delicious, the wine selection impressive, the service attentive and fluent in both German and English (and probably other languages as well). The location is great too: in the shadow of the medieval Hinterhaus ruin on the hill and on the banks of the Danube.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Breakfast buffet was very good. The menu for dinner is unimaginative and poorly executed. The attitude of owners is that they take their guests for granted. The bright spot was Thomas, the waiter, extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
