Things to do in Totana
Went to the market on Wednesday and dropped in to Gran Parada for a café. It is beside the rambla at the bottom of the market on the right going downhill. It is quieter than the one next door. Good café americano. Good service and reasonably priced at 1â¬.
Used to eat here years ago before it closed. Found out by chance that it had reopened, so went for dinner with friends. We all enjoyed good service, food and location. It just lacks atmosphere which will happen once people know that it is open again.Friday night and only 4 tables occupied tells the story. I certainly recommend it.
We have eaten here many times and our experience has been quite varied. The venue is an outdoor kitchen with tables set out under the trees or within a marquee. The food is varied in quality sometimes good sometimes not so good. But always value for money ( could say cheap) Salads are always good My advise is to look around and see what others are eating and make a choice from there. The staff are friendly and helpful. Don't expect a menu a list of what they have will be read out to you in Spanish, you can always ask if you have a fancy for something else as the list is not always comprehensive. As for the bill ate the end of the meal don't expect a breakdown the price will be written on the corner of the paper tablecloth. It's nearly always cheaper than you think it will beHi Colin, I really appreciate your honest opinion and point of our work. This help us to keep improving our food and service. If you come back soon you will see many changes.GreetingsMelanie.

I was taken to eat at Bar la cruz yesterday by my sister who lives nearby. We were the only brits there. We had a lovely starter of Spanish style vegetables. My sister opted for Lamb as her main course and I chose the Swordfish. My sister loved her choice and I found the Swordfish to be the best that I have ever tasted. The house red wine was superb too. Next time that I visit Totana, I will certainly check out Bar la cruz again.

Located at the side of the main square (Plaza de la Balsa Vieja) in Totana. Platea is a clean, tidy & modern looking bar - far removed from the usual "run of the mill" cluttered Spanish bars.Enter through etched glass doors into a nicely proportioned bar room, with a well stocked bar running along the left hand side of the room. The woven-style bar façade is illuminated & adds to the modern feel.High tables with transparent heavy duty plastic high bar stools & mirrored walls run a long the opposite wall with a glass partitioned separate room at the far end.Glass tapas cabinet on the bar counter, but didn't seem to carry much at the time of this visit. There are wall mounted flat screen TV's (broadcasting different channels).Shared toilets for both male/female are very clean, tidy, modern & fresh smelling. Large trough-like washbasin with mirror there over. Soap dispenser & hand towel dispenser with good quality paper towels. The decor in the toilet replicates a "padded cell" with a mural of a wine drinking, blood spattered Hannibal Lecter, (Silence of the Lambs) - "watching". Staff, polite & efficient, but could perhaps be a bit more friendly - "service with a smile" would not go amiss.I have visited on occasions for drinks, coffee or breakfast. Not eaten at any other time so cannot comment on the quality of the food.Small outdoor seating area beneath a sun visor & overlooking the square is a pleasant place to sit. Well suited to smokers.I shall use this venue again. If in the area it is worth a visit.

We went with 2 friends on their recommendation for the menu del dia. It certainly did not disappoint with good service, and well cooked basic food. It was fairly quiet but we were the only English there with the few other tables taken up by locals, always a good sign. Coffee on the terrace with its excellent views was very welcome. We will come again.

Now I don't go much for salads, ways to 5 right?, but the quality of the salads was outstanding. In fact the quality of everything was outstanding. Could sit in dappled shade out on the pavement and take our time over a few beers. Coffee was excellent, too.No English spoken so the linguistically challenged (that would be me) will need internet help with the vernacular menu.

We tried here on the recommendation of friends....and it's a typical Spanish bar....no English in sight. It's a tapas bar rather than a restaurant with a very interesting decor of recycled shelves, boxes, shoes, old TVs and bits of wood.We had a bottle of red wine with a starter of a chicken salad with an interesting dressing of nuts, raisins and pomegranate seeds. It was actually very nice. For a main course we had streak and chips....which was ok I suppose.....but certainly not of restaurant quality. The staff were very nice and pleasant.....it was a nice atmosphere and good place to be.A bit of a shock with the bill when we paid â¬15 for the bottle of wine which was not that special (we usually pay less than half that or less). But it was ok for a change. The next day however we were struck down by a stomach bug....quite severe. I blame the warm salad....with cooked chicken and sauce in top. But I don't know. In any case it's now off the list.
