No matter how long you live in Madrid as a foreigner, as we have for more than six years, you can never underestimate the region's potential to deliver another new and extraordinary eating experience, driven by the modern Spanish passion for food. Valhalla may be in the less touristy part of Escorial, ie the town without the prefix San Lorenzo, but it's well worthwhile the short detour or taxi ride for the 11 or 13 course lunch, or 7 course dinner (these are only the owner's recommendations, you can of course go smaller at lunch or larger at dinner). Ingredients are often local - some of ours had been picked on the river bank that morning - and whipped up into textures and flavours that leave you surprised and chuckling when you are told afterwards what they are, and excited about the next one. Each course comes with its own drink, from the Leon-brewed white or IPA beer, to the fabulous Puerta de Sol white and Maria Dulce light dessert wine. We dined in the evening on the 7 courses - they can come quite fast one after another be so prepared to set your own piece rather than be forced into going at theirs - which proved quite enough to delight the tongue without overfacing the stomach. Among our favourites were the bloody mary cocktail with foamed celery on top, the potato-based churros with a creamy soup of vegetables and almonds, steak tartare with truffle, and what I can only call the smoke surprise - when you take the lid off a great cloud of wood-flavoured smoke?/steam? envelopes you. And the bill? Eyewateringly modest - surely the market could bear more in order to ensure this young restaurant's future. It absolutely deserves to succeed.Gracias

I've been to El Gallinero for a business lunch and at first I was impressed by the place. It is really big and nicely decorated, ambiance is nice and tables are beautifully dressed. The menu looks good and ample, and we chose a salad to share in between three people, which was difficult to do because of the way it was assembled, nice for one by impossible for the centre of the table. We then shared the huevos con chistorra that were nice, and then came disaster. We ordered "lubina" and "Dorada" which were offered with different vegetables and supposedly were cooked in a different way but it turned out to be the same thing on different fish. A bit disappointing really.Desserts were nice, and service was quick and efficient but something happened at the kitchen and they did not even bothered to explain..First time I see this in a restaurant with these prices...

Desde hace poco , mi restaurante a desaparecido de la búsqueda en la categorÃa de "restaurantes en Navacerrada" y aparece en " postres" y "lugares donde comer" No entiendo el motivo, de no figurar en Restaurantes de Navacerrada
We chose to eat in this restaurant being recommended by family. I must say the food was really good, the service was excellent and the place was rustic but very nice. Price/quality was really good. I would definitely recommend this place and we'll certainly be going back.Nos recomendaron este sitio algunos familiares y de verdad estaba muy bueno. La comida, el servicio y el sitio rustico eran espectacular. Calidad/precio muy bien. Es recomendable. Seguramente volveremos.

Decided to try the Alacena after reading some very positive reviews on TA and it did live up to expectations. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. The 3-course menu for â¬16 was made available to us on a Saturday night at 9pm. Food was creative and delicious, service friendly (which in my books is always a big brownie point in a touristy area where we clearly aren't locals). I am SO going back this summer.

Excellent quality/price ratioRice is spectacular, ataff is nice and very helpful, Menu del DÃa is great for the money and on Fridays you have to book far in advance to eat a very good Cocido Madrileño

Modern cousin where you least expect it, the menu is nice and imaginative. Doesn't disappoint and it always delivers excellent quality food. It's a small restaurant, decoration is unexpected but nice. The best thing about this place is how the owner/chef is very attentive with his clients and always comes over to explain the plates and talk with the customers. If you're around the area a definitely must go, do advice to make reservations as it gets busy on the weekends.

The staff are friendly, the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable, what more can you ask for. Roast chicken is beautifully cooked but there is so much more to choose from.

Nice and friendly place for every families and not expensive. The best meat you'll ever eat. English menu.
The position is lovely up in the mountains with very nice views. The food looked nice although we just had coffee. The problem was the man who served us. Not one smile, the coffee badly served. Its a shame when so many people are unemployed in spain that someone like that is employed. A real shame to have such surly and unhelpful service.Dear costumer:Thank you for your visit. You tell us that the food is good with a real good views.Thank you.If the unic problem you had was with the coffee because the waiter didn´t smile or the coffe was badly served i'm so sorry, but what about the other employers, and the other waiters? The real shame is not to be objective, don´t you? Please read the other opinions... is the opposite you explain.Asador Alto del León

Our last dinner in Spain before departure for home. They say save the best for last - this was by far one of the best seafood weâve been fortunate to enjoy while traveling in Spain. The restaurant was bustling with activity but our servers still made all of us feel VIP. They explained the menu items with such enthusiasm that you salivate listening. We savored every bite and licked our fingers for good measure. If you love seafood, this is another one of the âmust visitâ. About an hour away from Madrid but the beautiful drive and the dinning experience is worth the travel away from the city crowd.
