This restaurant is in the newer part of the city, about 20 mins walk from the centre and just round the corner from a large shopping centre and the Escuela Universitaria Cardenal Cisneros. It is well worth the walk.A well chosen Menu del diá usually includes a Bakalao dish but also meat and veg. Today was 12 EUR including pan, drink and postres.Very well cooked and presented food.Popular with locals.Highly revommended

Broke the journey from Santander to Marbella at Alcala de la Henares, on the outskirts of Madrid. The hotel seemingly closes its restaurant on many Saturday nights as it does a lot of weddings! Somewhat irritating! So if you find yourself in the Isla de la Garena hotel with a closed restaurant and a limited 'cafeteria' menu - you may feel the urge to go elsewhere. Look no further than the Alcaravea Alcala!I called and booked a table in English - which I could have done in Spanish but it's nice to know with limited Spanish that lingo isn't going to be a problem.Arrived at 8:15 and the place was empty - not surprising in this part of the world. But the staff were very friendly and obliging. I ordered a main course of Monkfish & king Prawn kebab ( brochetta de Rape y Langoustines) - which was very good; it literally came by itself with no garnish other than garlic butter - but I should have asked, as this is often the case in Spain. It was actually 2 kebabs and certainly a generous portion. A point here - the waiter suggested I shouldn't order a starter due to the generous portion size! This dish was a special and there was a very good choice of food on the standard menu, supplemented by a good choice of specials. By 9:15 the place was pretty much full with a good crowd of Spanish friends and family having a good night out. I succumbed to the dessert menu - which in fact is a tray with examples of all the evenings desserts which they bring around and explain the choices. The Cheesecake was very good. Followed by coffee and a drink on the house. Not in a hurry to return to the hotel, I finished the evening with a premium Spanish brandy.I chose to walk to the restaurant which took 10 minutes each way, but taxis are apparently available.A very friendly & competent restaurant with interesting decor and a good atmosphere.P H thanks a lot for sharing your experience. For us it has been a pleasure to attend you.

Restaurant within the Parador - open to non residents.
After a thorough and fascinating tour of Alcala and its University, we enjoyed a wonderful luncheon at Restaurante Especia. We were seated in a glass-walled galleria overlooking a soothing interior garden. The table settings were elegant and the greeting was warm and welcoming. The succession of dishes was delicious and artfully prepared. The bread was noteworthy, and the suckling pig was over the moon. Ingredients were fresh and local. Desserts were at the same time exotic and traditional. I am certain that Restaurante Especia will soon have a Michelin Star.

We are a totally artisan pizzeria, where our pizzaioli made ââpizza dough by hand daily with fresh ingredients and top quality. Our kitchen has a Mediterranean influence, but not entirely, since we also use products from other countries to find the best po
We read the TripAdvisor reviews and we were looking forward to a great meal, we love pizzas and pasta.Firstly the place was completely empty at 9 pm, warning sign.Next the pasta choice was terrible, only four basic pasta's, no seafood etc. The wine by the glass was a pathetic measure, barely three mouthfuls . Service was ok .How this restaurant has reached number 2 in Alcala de Henares I will never know. As a diner who has reviewed 50 plus restaurants in many countries I believe I am a fair judge of quality restaurants, sadly this one is below par!

We came for dinner on a Wednesday without a reservation. Since we were there at opening time (9pm) we managed to get one of the few unreserved tables. Despite the place's popularity though, we weren't overly impressed. Service was friendly (though Spanish only) but the food was only average at best, unfortunately.

I am vegetarian and my mum is gluten intolerant so it is always difficult to eat out, especially abroad. The staff here were really helpful and attentive, even creating a separate starter for me. The food was good and the restaurant had a nice, busy atmosphere.

This small restaurant targets locals rather than tourists - this is probably the reason why their food is very good. Two meals were simply awesome - baked mushrooms with vegetables, and deep fried fish. Friendly service and reasonable prices. Would be delighted visiting them again if get a chance.

Wow, Vinoteca is a must-try if you ever find yourself in Alcalá. The jamon and wine are incredible and you can tell that the owner, Javi, truly cares about his customers. He will find you a wine that you absolutely love and you can buy a whole bottle of it just down the street at their equally charming wine shop. I have been there 4 times now (2 dinners and 2 dinners+wine tastings) and every meal has been lovely and accompanied by incredibly attentive service-- something I've had a hard time coming across here, as a visitor from the US. Definitely try their jamon, manchego, pisto, and croquetas! We are so grateful for our returning customers like you. Thank you for taking the time out to write a review and for visiting us. The jamon is wonderful, isn´t it! We look forward to your future visits.

Came with my friends a couple of friends. We read reviews on TripAdvisor that they had good pizza so we decided to try it out. Prices weren't horrible and the pizza's were ok. They had several interesting combinations. My wife has a macaroni and cheese pizza which really wasn't that good. There was something about the macaroni that was too rich. I had a Salami pizza with bacon and it was ok, but there was way too much bacon. I don't know but Spanish bacon isn't one of the best to be honest, but the pizza was ok, just had to remove a lot of the bacon. Staff was very friendly and the service was good.Dear friend, Thaks for your opinion. Local Pizza in Spain is so diferent. Best regards and ill see you soon again
