Where to eat Caribbean food in Bluefields: The Best Restaurants and Bars
I came here on Christmas Eve (this past Monday) with my boyfriend and my mom who's visiting from out of the country. The saving grace of El Coliseo is the the structure itself is beautiful and unique. It sits atop a hill, so the panoramic view of Bluefields is fantastic as well! You won't get that view at any other restaurant in the city. But that's where the positives stop.In my first review of El Coliseo, I mentioned how the food was a bit disappointing. I also mentioned that the server got my order wrong and only said in response to his mistake, "Chef's apologies", which doesn't make sense anyway if the apology doesn't actually come from the chef. Anyway, on this night, my mom ordered lobster in garlic sauce, I ordered fried fish, and my boyfriend ordered fried chicken. For drinks, we had a few rounds of beer. My mom and my boyfriend's orders came out great! My order APPEARED to be great as well. But when I started eating my fish, I realized after a few bites that it was raw in the middle. RAW fish. Not only was it then unappetizing, but this is a very unsafe food practice for an establishment. Undercooked meats and seafood can make people sick. Moreover, our server continually forgot or took long periods of time to bring drinks we ordered to the table. He had quite a few others to serve, so we tried to be understanding.Overall, it was a nice visit for the three of us. I was relieved that my mom and boyfriend's food came out delicious, but I just can't overlook the raw fish El Coliseo served me. I'd recommend this place for drinks, not for food. One visit, your food could come out great. Another visit, it could be terrible.
