We three kings of Oamaru are....visited the North Star for Christmas Dinner and O what a feast. Wonderful, warm, friendly atmosphere with great tasting treats with a spectacular Main buffet Menu. Staff were so kind and engaging on this special day. They even provided little boxes to fill and take-away. Quite the occasion!

These guys were really busy but we certainly did not feel like a hindrance. Out of the eight of us ladies I'd say six had cocktails (or two!!) with our lunch without too much added effort. Our lunch platters were amazing. The ocean to alps was amazing with lamb, pork and an assortment of seafood - very happy!! Reasonably priced as well.

Had lunch with my parents last week which was superb. The service from the minute that we walked in the door was second to none, the atmosphere and location fabulous and the food definitely did not disappoint with such a wide range of menu choices with most tastes and dietary restrictions covered. Will definitely return.

A busy restaurant in rural Oamaru, New Zealand owned by Bevan + Monique Smith. Reservations are recommended.
We went there for lunch today and, as usual, the food was eexquisite and the service was great. However, for the second time, when we went to the shop counter, we were unable to purchase anything because there was no shop person. At the time, the shop was busy with approx 8 customers. We rang the bell 8 times and nobody came to the till. Like last time, we left the products on the counter. We were prepared to spend $51 in the shop but left having spent nothing. Disappointing especially since it has happened before.

Situated at the south end of Thames St ( the gateway to the Victorian Precinct ) OPEN Monday - Saturday at 5pm - late ( our kitchen closes normally at 9pm but if it's busy we stay open until later). Here at Cucina, we strive towards creating a consistentl
Service was good, friendly and attentive. Decor was pleasant, room was toasty warm on a cold winter night. Started with egg tagliatelle, this was nice, but the sauce did not bring the disparate flavours together, not a favourite.Mains included the lamb and paella. The paella was watery and tasteless. The lamb dish was very nice, the lamb was cooked very well, but it was a tough loin. Beetroot and celeriac were the highlights of the dish. The star of the meal was the sides. The polenta fries, sprouts, and pear/blue cheese dishes were all very good. It is unusual when the sides are better than the mains. Dessert: the cheese board was nice but disappointing, it had so many flavours on the dish that the meagre cheese failed to shine through. The ricotta and feijoa fritters were good, but more like a donut.
