Speightâs Ale Houses have become an intrinsic part of the history of Speightâs. Found within the historic brewery is the original Ale House, opened in 1999. The Speight's Ale House Ashburton breathed new life into the magnificent old bank building when it
Nice large servings. Mine had 2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 chops, 2 onion rings, 1 steak and lots of fries. Steak a little overdone on all dishes that were ordered. For 5 of us including drinks it came to $255. Pretty good value.

Kelly's is located on the main road and if anything the premises are a bit small - there are tables inside and out on the footpath but it is pretty compact. Good place for meeting up for drinks or dessert and coffee - can be a bit loud and busy though so lacks 'intimate' feel so not so much the romantic setting. Generally has good vibe and atmosphere with great menu - recommended.

It certainly makes a difference to have carpet on the floor! I know this is a food review but if you cant hear your friends speak from noisy wooden floors whats the point in going? Now for the food. The four of us met up and dined in the more formal part of the restaurant. It was Brilliant! Hadn't been out for a meal for yonks. We ordered the garlic bread and bruschetta with cheese tomato and balsamic glaze for starters. Yum!! 2 of us had the pork belly.. 1 the venison and the other the steak with vegies. We were all thoroughly delighted with our meals and plates were left almost spotless! Hadn't been here for a long time and we won't take so long to go back next time.Staff were great.. polite..efficient..smiley.. Thanks for a great night team.. lovely relaxing and even though there was a band in the next bar, it wasn't intrusive where we were.

Ate at the now Phat Duck. Looking at menu and the price I expected the food to be of a much higher standard. Was a very basic pub food and could have been executed better. Nice staff and I've previously had lunch there and enjoyed it more and felt the lunch quality was better. Will def be back for drinks and lunch etc but maybe not dinner.
