Called in on a Sunday evening for a bite to eat. There was a trio playing jazz music and the atmosphere was great with a lot of people enjoying themselves, we just about managed to get a couple of seats in the bar! Great selection of beers on tap I was pretty spoilt for choice! For food my girlfriend had fish and chips which she reckons was the best so far sheâs had in NZ. I had the chorizo and sausage meatloaf which tasted great. My only criticism with my meal was that it needed a bit of altering, it came with onion rings and mash which I didnât find went very well together, but the meatloaf itself was so tasty! Apart from that a great little pub with top beers and tasty food, will definitely return

Went to Cassels for lunch and it took an hour for our food to come out. I don't think I've never had to wait that long, especially in 30+ degree heat. The waitress did ask us if we wanted a bucket of us for the time, but this never came. overall everyone seemed to enjoy their meal, although mine was a tad of the salty side and the smell in the air was not pleasant today. very average visit.

Situated in the gorgeous seaside village of Sumner, Beach is one of New Zealand's iconic restaurants. Built on the sand, within metres of the Pacific Ocean, looking out across the Bay to the snow capped Southern Alps. Bask in the sunshine or watch the sun
Came here on a cool Tuesday afternoon and had a lovely lunch. Service was friendly and efficient. Coffee was good even did my decaffeinated coffee with almond milk. Food was generous and very tasty. Price was reasonable. Would be happy to go here again.

We were in Sumner and looking for somewhere different for lunch when we found this local inn. It has both inside and outside seating & we were warmly welcomed on what a cooler day !The lunch menu covered all the expected breakfast & lunch options. We enjoyed our smashed avocado salad & French toast which was loaded with bacon. There were also some daily specials and it was all very reasonably priced. We would certainly visit again when visiting Sumner.

Earlier this afternoon while in Christchurch I went to Winnie Bagoes in Ferrymead with a friend for lunch.i'm so pleased we did.The staff members Holly and Demi who served us were really lovely ,and made us feel welcome. On Holly's recommendation I had the Cajun pasta for a modest 20 dollars. It was really tasty, hot and spicy, but I'm used to hot and spicy food from having lived in China. The restaurant and bar was immaculately clean and tidy.I highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for really quality dining in Ferrymead. Andrew:)

The Valley Inn Tavern has been at the centre of the Heathcote Valley for over 130 years.Find out here what is happening at 'The Valley' and be a part of this wonderful community.Heathcote's Valley Inn restaurant specialises in locally sourced ingredients,
Although an old Heathcote identity and establishment this tavern has been tastefully refurbished to provide very welcome and pleasant surroundings. A pleasing choice for out group lunch, made all the more enjoyable by the friendly and helpful staff. We also appreciated having a separate dining area. There was a good selection of traditional meals on the menu plus some lunch specials at a very reasonable price. The meals were also generous. Although tasty the pork roast was a little grisly and the crackling inedible. However, the vegetables were very well cooked. A little more gravy would have been nice. A very good seafood chowder which was thick and creamy, but too much chewy mussels. Overall we all enjoyed the meal and the venue. Happy to return.

Previously a tailors of the same name, Civil & Naval is a bar and tapas restaurant. Placed on Lyttelton's main drag, they specialise in craft beer, and offer an eclectic wine list and some seriously good bar snacks and small plates. Drop by for a bevy of
We generally have been very impressed by the friendliness of the people in this country but were let down by this place. When we walked in, we said a friendly hello. All 3 staff members looked at us in disgust. 2 of them were chatting and blanked us, while the third one looked like she was serving a different costumer. 4 mins later it turned out that that customer had also been blanked until someone asked him what he wanted. At that stage we were still waiting for someone to acknowledge us. The other 2 were still talking to each other and we started to lose our patience. After we looked at the menu we found nothing intriguing and were fed up with the place and terrible service so we left. We went to Fishermanâs Wharf instead where we had one of the best meals and friendliest service in our whole 2 months of travelling around New Zealand.

Governors Bay Hotel is an historic 1870s hotel with stunning views over Lyttelton Harbour. Located just 20 minutes drive from central Christchurch via Dyers Pass Road. Gastro-pub fare at reasonable prices from the garden, bar or restaurant. Recommended in
Following a nice, but short, drive from Christchurch we were all pleased with our food which slots into the 'good pub meal' category. The service was however disappointing but, to be fair, I suspect we caught them on a bit of a bad day - Sunday lunchtime; member of staff absent; one waitress unfortunately dropped a couple of plates of food; and so on!!Hi there,Thank you for your contribution to the TA forum. Some days donât go as planned and when you have a busy Sunday service ahead itâs not ideal to have key staff absent due to illness. Anyway, stuff happens and weâre very glad you enjoyed your meals with us.Kind regards and happy travels,Jeremy
