open early...serves breakfast till five..till FIVE! that's RIGHT sleep in and you won't miss a beat...but let's get down to the meat...or salmon, actually...the meat in this case is bacon on a wonderful piece of thick toast...accompanied by 2 perfectly poached eggs and smothered in, maybe(and i've eat this dish around the world, but mostly in the san francisco area. hundreds of times) the best hollandaise sauce i've ever tasted...thick, but not TOO...and that hint of lemon is there. the service was flawless and the atmosphere casual...and the price was undeniably reasonable...i can't believe i waited as long as i did to check it out...the last few establishments on this corner folded after a bit..i just thought this would do the same... SO glad it didn't...

We, a mature couple, stopped here for lunch during a day visit to Leiden. There is a great terrace overlooking the junction of two stretches of canal. The service is obliging, efficient and very pleasant. The food and drinks are of a high standard. A great place to relax.

Amazing restaurant: friendly people, delicious high-end food and a lovely ambiance. I've been here several times now and been impressed every time. It feels like a special night out instead of simply going out to eat. Would recommend it to everyone

We were a group of 8 people. The first waiter after no more than 30 seconds said âit is taking too longâ and called a second one. After ten minutes another waiter told us âwe have other tables to take care ofâ. Believe me, we were not making them wait more than 10/20 seconds. Clearly the boss does not require the personnel to be kind. Rude and unpleasant service.

We came here for Easter Sunday dinner. I had not looked up for any recommendations, so I did not really know what to expect. Anyway, I did not expect to get food that could easily be given a Michelin star. We took the Chefs Menu and wine paring to go with it. All the dishes were delicious and beautiful. I enjoyed especially the amuse which was maize in different forms, and the desert which was kiwi in different ways. The service was professional and friendly through out. This is definitely a restaurant where I want to get back when in Leiden again.

It was raining, and we arrived early. We were the only patrons in the establishment and the hosts allowed us to sit and wait until the restaurant opened for dinner. We were very happy and very touched that they allowed us to sit at a table with beverage (I had the beer, she had the wine) and unwind after a fun day museum hopping. The atmosphere is incredible relaxed and indulging. Our hosts were exceedingly gracious and offered to be top our beverages with the warning that they would be sitting to eat their dinner before the restaurant opened to serve the dinner menu. We were treated very well. The other patrons soon started to arrive, and we were not pushed, or hurried, or fussed over. Instead, we graciously waited on and served with genuine smiles, and heartfelt polite demeanor. The kitchen opened to serve dinner. We asked for the tuna sashimi, the smoked salmon, and the duck as appetizers. The salmon melted in our mouths, the tuna was fresh and so tender. The duck was was equally delicious. The rain continued outside, while we were happy and comforted by the hosts inside. We ordered our main course, I had the rabbit and was blown away by the succulent flavors that were exploding with every bite, leaving longing for more--a masterpiece by the chef! She had the sea bass which was light and delectable!Dessert for me is always the crème brûlée if itis on the menu. I was not disappointed, rich, yet soft, delicious, and savory. It makes you understand that this is what crème brûlée is supposed to taste, feel, consist, and achieve: a taste of heaven with every spoonful! The rain had stopped, and the night air was crisp, and fresh, and invigorating from the near sleep inducing comfort provided by our hosts. We practically closed the place along with our hosts and we were sad to leave, but it is a night we will always remember and be grateful to have been fortunate enough to have experienced the culinary magic and delightful atmosphere of De Jonker.Thank you to our wonderful hosts for an experience unmatched by others.

Quite simple: go on a Monday or Tuesday (perhaps a Wednesday too) as you can get three dishes for Euro 29. On a Monday evening the restaurant wasnât packed, a few parties and couples there, but getting a table was fine without having to make a booking. The starter of tuna and cucumber mouse was a good refreshing start to the meal (though piercing the samphire stalks into the tuna chunks wasnât necessary and hardly the most refined way of serving the dish), a main of steak and sweet breads which was very tasty, and a pudding of crème brûlée which could have done with being a little bit hotter and stickier with the sugar on the top. Donât worry about the gimmick names for each dish, look past that and order some excellent food. Perhaps not the most refined of presentations, and a bit of tweaking here and there with some of the ingredients would elevate this place to being a super excellent restaurant (and the price would go up!), but the service was extremely friendly and knowledgeable (including some very good wine recommendations), and, for the price, this place is a real gem for an early week dinner.Thank you very much for your kind words!

Everything is nice about this place with one major exception. It is located in one of the most beautiful spots in Leiden. The service is good. The food looks beautiful. But everything I had was remarkably, even weirdly bland. Like it was prepared for people who can't tolerate any salt or spices. But I only had 3 dishes (including a free little pre-appetizer which was a nice touch), so may be I just had bad luck.

High class service, topfood served in a fine, relaxed atmosphere. Established in 1997, more than twenty years Leiden's finest!
A great restaurant offering high end food at reasonable prices. We did the â¬80 a head mid week meal not realising that this also included a flight of wines to pair with every course. Water and coffee was complimentary which really gave an overall feeling of exemplary service. Food fantastic and service great and price reasonable. What more can you ask for!Definitely will be going back
