Located in beautiful South Hero, Vermont, The Paddle is a hidden gem nestled in the Champlain Islands. Recently, Co-Owner/Chef Phoebe R. Visit The Paddle on facebook, "like" and you may win one of many gift certificates the owners award weekly! "Love many, trust a few, but always paddle your own canoe."
You don't expect to find a first-rate restaurant on an island in Vermont, but this one rates all the superlatives, from our drinks to our main courses. We weren't in the least surprised that walk-ins had to be turned away; fortunately, we had a reservation. We shared a flavorful appetizer of veggie spring rolls, one of us had pasta as a main course and the other the duck breast -- both dishes were delicious -- and the recommended wines and cocktails complemented the food well. Service was friendly and efficient without being overbearing or intrusive.

This roadside snack bar has great fries and milk shakes. I especially like the maple shake. They also have all the usual food like hamburgers and onion rings. Too bad the place is only seasonal.

Super burgers! Meat was tender and tasty, and cooked just the way we like it. Onion rings were crisp and deliciously battered. Ice cream is made in Vermont and wonderful.
I had "cow's tail" which was vanilla with fudge sauce, peanut butter cups and Heath bar crunch! I asked for one scoop and I think I got three! Yum!

Homestyle comfort food from the Himalayas. Gluten and Vegan friendly.
We went to Himalaya based on all positive reviews. The place is indeed absolutely awesome: the staff is very friendly and the food quality is excellent and the taste is great. We've chosen Momo appetizers and Tibetan main courses: all dishes were delicious.

Locally themed cafe in the heart of South Hero; Ever changing menu offering seasonal harvests from local farmers and purveyors.
We have gone to Cook Sisters' Cafe twice in the past couple of weeks. Both times it was on the late side and they graciously accommodated us each time. The first time, my husband had a tuna steak and I had crab cakes on a salad. They were delicious as was the appetizers of hummus with olives, pickles and warm pita bread and the dates wrapped with prosciutto (yum!!).
Tonight we went again. Same delicious food. My husband had the lobster sauce and I had the salmon. We were impressed. The salmon was wild, which is very hard to find in a restaurant, and the lobster saute was outstanding. The service was excellent and we love the atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable too. We recommend this little gem highly!

Wally's Place was established to provide the community with a healthy and delicious alternative to the current trends of breakfast and lunch eateries. We partner with area farms to bring our customers a fresh, local and delicious menu. We strive to deliver a superior brewed cup of coffee, a fresher tasting bagel, and the best quality sandwiches with homemade breads & locally sourced ingredients.
From NYC area and there is no comparison.
Ask for very little cream cheese or butter get more than woulf feed a family. Ugh.
Having seats is better and new store is bright and clean.
I'll stick to filling my carry-on with bread and bagels from NY and freeze the.

Kim's is a semi-permanent, seasonal snack bar right on Route 2 in Grand Isle. They are open three seasons of the year, and close in the winter. Kim's is a fixture in the Lake Champlain Islands. You want really good, greasy snack bar comfort food, this is the place. They have a fairly wide variety of food on the menu. It isn't just hamburgers and hot dogs. You can also get fried clams, french fries, onion rings, Michigan dogs, and (as I recall) fried chicken baskets, and so much more. The parking lot is always packed, and you can carry your meals over to several picnic tables placed at separate locations on the grass nearby and enjoy yourselves. It's a nice place for families with kids. Going to Kim's is a longstanding tradition at my house. I have been solo, with my husband, with friends, and with my motorcycle club. Good cheap eats and friendly people!

From a wonderful server,Crystal, to delicious subs and fries, our visit was so enjoyable.
The wine list a most tasty Pinot Noir and our table was visited personally by the manager who blessed us with a delicious bread pudding, boy would I like that recipe!
Kudos to a great owner, staff, great food and good ambiance.

Having driven past like 100 times we never though twice until recently we "needed" pizza in the area and decided to give them a try.
There is no website - someone was kind enough to post a photo of the menu somewhere but its pretty simple: pizza (10" and 14" only) and grinders. The lovely lady on the phone is also the chef and hence can be quite busy (including leaving the phone off the hook if its getting too much - saw this first hand at pickup!) but once she gives you a pickup time you're "in" (we got 6:10 pm and bang she was cutting them up at 6:08).
Prices are reasonable and the crust is what makes them really different - "greek" style as a mix of pan crust (big edges and kinda thicker) but incredibly light and crisp (not soggy). Toppings are apparently fresh and local as can be obtained and in fact were delicious and felt "natural".
The actual shop is pickup only and a big dodgy looking but worth it. Hours are 4:30 to 8:30pm and she does a good business but has little interest in hassles so don't be rude!
Will certainly be back.

Bagels, Breads, Sandwiches and Soups. Wally's has great coffee an treats as well!
I have stopped by here occasionally when buying gas at the station next door. They have MANY really tasty bagel options. I usually get a bagel sandwich and a cup of coffee or tea. This is a great little spot for a quick breakfast or lunch on the fly. Surprisingly good for such a small place. The bagels were quite tasty. Give it a try. Locals love this place, and so do our tourists!
