Walked in early afternoon on a Saturday mind you. I was only buying about 1.5 lbs of brisket. In and out. The hostess was very nice and sent me to the bar. There were a handful of occupied tables and maybe 1 other person at the bar. From there, the waiting began. I don't think it's an exaggeration to suggest I waited at least 5 minutes for someone to ask me what I wanted. Once that happened and I ordered the bbq (no sides mind you), I would guess I waited another 15-20 minutes before I was asked if I wanted it hot or cold. In the interim, while I sat at the bar, I wasn't offered water or anything else while I waited. No one said "bear with us, it's a bit slow in the kitchen today". I was completely ignored, mostly like I was when I walked in. 5 minutes after saying I wanted it cold, the bbq came out and I left. The bbq could have been the best I've ever had (it wasn't though not bad either) and I still wouldn't go back. You never get a second chance to make a first impression and my first impression was they were not interested in selling me food or even showing some basic hospitality (other than the hostess).

Heard good things about this place so I stopped and ordered a brisket sandwich on the way home. I agree with another reviewer...the beef brisket is drowned in sauce. You canât get it without the sauce apparently. And I didnât care to much for the sauce. Plus the meat was sliced way too thin, a little chewy and wasnât hot enough. I wonât be getting the brisket again. Maybe the pork is better??

I really like Roger's BBQ variety of food. It has a great taste, plenty of veggies (corn on the cob, string beans, collards, cabbage, squash casserole, sweet potato souffle, etc); meats (fried chicken, bbq chicken, bbq, fried pork chops); seafood (fried shrimp, fish, deviled crabs, etc) and desserts. However, I feel the chicken bog could be improved where it is not soggy/gummy. Also, the hush puppies and biscuits use to be so much better. They also need to be improved upon. But overall the other foods are very good. Their fried okras are the bomb!

The three of us visited Cains today and enjoyed a late lunch. There's quite a lot on the buffet. I had some of the pork BBQ with their vinegar based sauce and it was good as was the meatloaf. I tried some of the gumbo/beef stew and it was delicious. Other items I thought were good were the chicken and rice, the hush puppies and the desserts, especially the ambrosia. Cains is like several of the other local BBQ joints. Lots of food with a variety of meats, veggies and desserts. Pretty good overall but not spectacular. Service is great.
