In need of a facelift
Reviewed By debramI25FDThis was our 2nd visit to this property. On the plus side, the rooms are very quiet and relatively clean & front desk staff friendly and welcoming. The floor in front of the coffee bar in the room was a bit sticky and I found a dead spider and a couple of ladybugs on the floor upon occupying. Although the room had a private balcony, had the weather been nice enough to go outside, we wouldn't have been able to. The door was swollen shut. Other signs of neglected exterior and interior maintenance were noted. The towel heater in the bathroom wasn't working. Plus one of the bath towels had dirt/dust on it that looked like it had been hanging on the rack for a very long time (I showed it to the front desk when checking out). The bartender, Austin, in the Library bar was very personable. We ate dinner the first nite at Darby's. The food was mediocre at best and wine was pricey at $12/glass, but the service was good. The exercise room was a bit sad. Pool was nice and warm. Despite having cable t.v., no major networks were available :‐/. The property itself really is historical and has many lovely elements, but I feel as if Covid hasn't been kind to this place.

Not very clean
Reviewed By J HThe outside of the hotel had leaves , dirt ,cigarette butts in the walkways. The room the desk chair had a cut the seat, paint pealing from door and walls. floor lamp did not work, electric plug ins at the desk did not work. Kitchen area closed the free breakfast was a paper bag with a sausage and egg croissant in it

Very clean - good customer service
Reviewed By Michael NPrice was high for this area, but it was very clean and the staff were friendly. The hot breakfast buffet was good with good variety. My wife guess is that the eggs labeled "free range' were probably just normal store bought eggs. Overall the best choice of hotel in this area.

Reviewed By Freedom10455DO NOT GO HERE! This was the worst Hotel experience ever and I've stayed a lot of places. If I could post pictures you would be disgusted. The desk attendant was a complete useless tool and the room was disgusting. Dead bugs and mold everywhere. Dirty poop filled diaper's, pet food cans, and garbage on the sidewalks, Disgusting green pool with Garbage all around it. AC units spewing bacteria and mold. No housekeeping whatsoever. Dead bugs of all types in every corner of the room and on the furniture. Stains on the refrigerator door like Ron Jeremy finished his Scene there that day. Unfortunately it was a big race weekend so there as nothing else for miles, we tried. We even though about staying in the car instead. Couldn't shower for days as the shower was full of mold and water barely trickled out of the shower or the sink. Would have been like taking a shower with a manually pumped squirt gun and not one of those fancy ones. We left the hotel and went to the local convenient stores to use the bathroom it was so bad we didn't dare touch the toilette. If I could give this place a minus 5 it wouldn't be low enough.

Horrible stay and they are Frauds
Reviewed By mzjackson11I will never stay here again. I have been staying in this hotel for over 18 years as I visit my family back home and able for business. I used to stay here when it was holiday. This hotel has gone down a lot in regards of the condition of the hotel. However I stayed here May 7 and checked out May 8. I left this hotel in perfect condition for only inwas here for a short period of time due to business/ family matter. 4 days after leaving the hotel I notice they charged me $250 for a broken toilet!! Stated I put soap in the . I informed them I would never but a bar of soap in the toilet. I deputed this matter with every possibly and they refused to remove the charge. They sent me a picture that looked as if they were trying to frame me or scam so they can make money. In addiction this charge was on my American express business card . The hotel never contacted me no follow up from management besides emails stating they couldn't take the charge off. No Clarion will everrrr get my business again. So please other if you stay here what out for extra charges of damages on your account. Do not stay here please go next door to the Marriott.

Small, upscale bed and breakfast in the historic district of South Boston, Virginia. The Victorian home was built in 1904 by Charles Bass, hence its name. It is a half-mile walk to downtown with shops, restaurants and churches. And it is easy driving distances to The Prizery Community Arts Center, Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, South Boston Speedway, Virginia International Raceway and other venues.

John has created an exemplary B&B within his meticulously restored and maintained Victorian home. Although John was not at home when I arrived, I was greeted by Jazz music softly playing throughout the common areas. I felt very much at home enjoying the sunroom and the refreshments offered. My two-room suite with a private bath was well appointed and meticulously clean. The bed was extremely comfortable with crisply ironed sheets. I look forward to staying there again!

Reviewed By lovey8This is a lovely place in every way! The beautiful house is part of a family farm of 400 acres. It is private and quiet and has a great walking area through a towering patch of bamboo that leads to an old family cemetery. My bedroom was in a grand library and had its own bathroom. The bed was comfortable and I slept with the windows open and woke up hearing birds singing. The breakfasts were delicious and the proprietor was thoughtful in asking about food preferences. She is a wealth of knowledge about local history and landmarks. This BnB has also been recognized for “f Green” initiatives and boasts a charging station. This is one of my favorite BnB’s I’ve been to yet.
