We stayed at Kangaroo Island Wildnerness Retreat which was wonderful, but the gem of the Retreat is Nicolas Baudin's Restaurant and Bar. We visited in July, which is winter in Australia, so the sun sets early and we had a long drive at dusk and in the dark across the island from the ferry terminal in Penneshaw to the Retreat. After dodging a crazy number of wallabies and possums crossing the road, we really hoped the food was good at the Retreat because I think that is the only restaurant open after dark nearby and we did not want to go back on the road with so much wildlife activity! Thankfully, the food was superb! We stayed at the Retreat for 3 nights and we ended up gorging ourselves every evening with multiple-course meals at the restaurant. We tried almost everything on the menu and enjoyed every bite! Don't miss the chance to try the kangaroo loin and lamb shank! Absolutely delicious. And the drink selection included many excellent local KI wines, beers, and spirits. What a pleasant surprise to have such a beautiful culinary experience in such a remote place!Dear KarpyCarpeDeimThank you for the review and the positive comments.Yes, we are the only restaurant open for dinner for some 90km... but we do not rest on our laurels in offering the best of KI CuisineKind regardsRTF General Manager

We are conveniently located within walking distance of the Ferry Terminal in Penneshaw. Our historical building with beautiful views across the 'backstairs passage' to mainland Australia is ideally located. We offer a range of international dishes where e
We were looking for a place for a relaxing winter holiday lunch and could not have been happier after stumbling upon âThe Corridorâ. The seafood soup was a revelation - seriously good, flavourful, spiced just right and tasting of the freshness of the ocean (which, as a bonus, you can look out across directly from your table). The mains were thoughtfully prepared, tasty and very satisfying. Service was attentive and friendly; the conversation with the chef about ingredient sources rounded out the experience. Highly recommended and a nice change from pub fare and takeaways (although you can order takeaway as well if you prefer that option). For such a small town, Penneshaw is very fortunate to have this dining option. Hi Paul LSo sorry for the late response, must be a good thing in a way as we're getting busier all the time. Your review says it all..... THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT

This local pub/restaurant offered a really good variety of meals and drinks, all well priced. Having read a number of recent reviews I cannot identify with these as this was really not our experience. My wife and I both chose an ante pasta followed by kangaroo loin with a red wine jus and vegetables â¦which was all well cooked and well-seasoned. Wines and beer are all good, as is the service and cleanliness. The establishment offers made to order food, tasty and features prompt service. There is good parking and the restaurant is well located on Murray Street.

We came across this lovely café after leaving Kingscote airport on our way to our accommodation at the other end of the island. I loved the quirky gardens, lots of things to look at and to find. Lots of bird activity and we saw the snoozy wild kangaroos in one of the enclosures. Inside the café is a mini art gallery with other interesting things to see. We had a light lunch of a ham salad baguette followed by carrot cake, enjoyed by both of us. We had a warm welcome and good service.

Food, wine, luxury accommodation and a genuine welcome await. Just one hour from Adelaide and set atop a gentle hill, Appellation at The Louise is highly regarded as one of Australia's finest restaurants led by chef Daniel Murphy. With a passion for real,
The decor of the restaurant and adjoining lounge is understated and elegant. We found the staff all friendly and very knowledgeable. The food was brilliant and we loved each course, portions are small but by the end we were certainly full and very satisfied. The extra touches are very thoughtful and added to our dining experience.

We visited with another couple for the 7 course tasting menu with luxury wine matching.Including the tasting to start it actually ends up being about 15 plates all with wonderful presentation. The service was great and the flavours were distinct and yummy. My Husband loves meat so his only minor complaint was only 1 course had mammal but I really canât fault anything.
