Things to do in Puerto Penasco

La Cita, the oldest restaurant in Puerto Penasco, is under new ownership and with a new menu that is sure to please your palate and your pocketbook. Whereas the old place featured Puebla cuisine, Mexican Chef Antonio Mena has chosen to focus on the cooking of Sonora, which means there is excellent use of Machaca (beef), Nopalitos (cactus fruit), local shrimp and other regional delicacies. Try any of Tony's well-constructed breakfasts or authentic Mexican lunch plates and you'll appreciate that this is a chef with wide experience, respect for tradition (as well as creativity) and a fierce dedication to his profession. He is the sort of chef whose admirers follow him around. Indeed, on the two occasions I dined here, I saw patrons from two other local restaurants where Tony wielded his spatula. Breakfasts include Oatmeal, Fruit Plates, Pancakes and French Toast, Huevos Rancheros, Huevos Divorciados (with opposing sauces vying for attention on either side of the same plate!), Nopalitos and Eggs, Rocky Point Shrimp Omelette, Bacon & Avocado Omelette (the best!), Potatoes with Chorizo and more. Lunches include the intriguing Mexican Fantasy Plate, Burritos and Chimichangas, Fantasy of the Sea with 2 kinds of shrimp, 2 kinds of flounder, rice and salad--as well as several other delectable seafood or meat combination dishes. All at very reasonable prices (or as the locals say, "Almost Free!") Special praise must be given to the coffee here, which is fresh ground with high quality beans and at 20 pesos is a bargain. Tony and his staff clearly know what they are doing and I predict this will soon be the 'in place' to dine in Puerto Penasco. It is very clean, attractive and so quiet (no idiotic American disco music like so many other local spots) you can actually have a pleasant conversation with other guests. Open 7 days a week from 7 am to 4 pm. Just down the street from Benvenides Pharmacy.

Turns out that yes....they were closed for the month of October, but it was due to them renovating the restaurant. They moved and improved the kitchen area and gave the place a paint job and cleaned and spruced up the entire restaurant. The best part is the food is still fantastic!!!! My buddy and I had the shrimp Ceviche, which had an unbelievable amount of shrimp in it. My wife's friend had the the shrimp cocktail and my wife had the shrimp quesadilla which also had loads of shrimp. Everything tasted great and the staff was as friendly as ever! If you're down in Old Port, stop in for a delightful lunch!

The service was terrific. The food was mediocre. Many locals suggested that we try the restaurant. Actually there were more Mexicanos than Touristas. We had just missed the buffet so our meal was a la menu. The chicken breast seemed a little synthetic and we have had much better (La Cuerva, Caffee Haus. Meal with tip was approx $10 US each.

After all these years it never disappointsâ Always Lovely to relax & enjoy all the Natural Beautyâ The service could certainly be more welcoming but the coupon offer is most welcomed! The menu offers a varied selection & our lunch was enjoyed by All!

Stopped here today because so many peeps live this place. Nice that it has inside seating (less distracting than the sidewalk seating) and it's clean. Really nice people and the food is good. No alcohol available, but water and soda and juice are.Service was good and food cane quickly. I would eat here again.

We ate dinner here twice during our 5 day stay...it was that great! Beautiful restaurant with a large patio right on the beach to enjoy the sunsets. They had live music and a large dance floor for some entertainment. The food was great, well presented and inexpensive considering you are right on the water! The waiters were attentive and prompt, which we appreciate. Definitely one of the best restaurants in PP.

This small spot on Penascoâs malecon was an accidental find. As they had coolers full of fresh-caught seafood just outside the front door we decided to drop in. Terrific service, great margaritas (muy fuerte), fish, tasty oysters, and gigantic shrimp were waiting for us. The coconut shrimp, a Penasco specialty, was absolutely delicious, and the garlic shrimp were done to perfection. Both were likely in the bay that AM. Total tab for drinks, apps, and lunch for two was less than $40 USD. We will be back.

If you want to experience non-american tacos, try this place out. it is the real deal. Nice folks, tasty food, just a great experience. Frankly the best food we had in Puerto Penasco by far. We had carne asada, carnitas, shrimp, and fish. It was all great. Fresh, tasty, and accompanied by all the sides that you could want. Great place - you simply must check it out!

I took my family here for dinner so everyone could choose their own tacos. It is a taco truck with a covered platform for seating built around it. They even have a blacklight cave at the back for the kids to wander through. Watch out as there is a gift shop and ice cream hiding back in the kids cave, so expect to have kids asking for treats or trinkets. Taco truck guys are really polite and friendly as they expect many people not to speak Spanish well. Most tacos involve batter dipped and fried chicken or shrimp. My favorite now is the marlin taco, which has stewed marlin that is juicy and messy on a tortilla, but has great texture. Especially with the spicy red salsa, I went back for seconds. Kids loved the chicken and shrimp tacos. You pay on the honor system of telling them how many tacos you ordered on the way out past the register, which is easy since all the tacos are the same price.
