My Somalilander friends took me to Sultan Restaurant on my 3rd night in Hargeisa. The minute you walk in through the large front gate, you feel you are in a different world. They have a beautifully decorated outdoor garden with many tables, two separate interior dining spots. The staff was extremely friendly, English-speaking and professional. I chose to get the camel bone marrow soup to start and then the camel with rice as the main course. The food came out quickly, hot and it was delicious! We finished up with some Somali tea and some deep conversations. The next day, I returned for lunch and had an equally amazing experience! Please put Sultan on your MUST DO list for your next trip to Hargeisa.

I visited this establishment on my first night in Hargeisa early Nov 2016.Whilst the music entertainment is commendable, specially to fans of Somali traditional music, but also to travellers in search of new musical experiences, the food experience is bitterly disappointing. We requested sampling of all available dishes. The food arrived pretty cold (it may well have been prepared hours in advance), fish was no longer available, and the services was pretty slow. Tea and coffee were served after the food, but it took over 30 minutes to arrive. This was also pretty cold.Toilet facilities needs a serious revamp and continuous up-keeping and cleaning. The state of the toilets were deplorable.I think in terms of music entertainment this place is quite unique and therefore recommendable. Food, general service and facilities lack far behind.
Lunch at Gulaid was pleasant enough. Seated in the garden and plagued by hungry cars. Service was good though a challenge if you don't speak Somali. The menu was verbal 'fish, chicken or meat with rice, pasta or chips'. Water and salad arrived, food was ok. Did the job but not exactly a highlight.
A local friend suggested to try a two moths new opened restaurant that serve African, international and Arabic food dishes. The chef â is Syrian and gave us explanation in Arabic. The serve fish dishes also and he advised to skip it hence the fish available is not so fresh. The restaurant is very spacious and clean. The interior design is simple but descent. The food display is awsome and the taste is supper. The staff are very nice and helpful.
