CCheck in on Sunday evening. Enter the room. It's terribly cold. The radiator is completely cold. Windows are closed. "You never know.. maybe there is a smart warming system that recognises the presence of people in the room and slowly warms up.."... "Let's wait a bit". After one hour it was still cold. I mean between 16 and 17 degrees. I go to the reception and ask if it is normal that it is so cold in the room.. if I am missing something that should maybe have done…. The gentlemen shows a wondered face meaning, “no no, it shouldn’t be cold at all” and follows me in the room. In the room he checks the radiator and says that it is turned off. He turns it on and says it will be all right soon. “Excuse us”, “sorry for the inconvenience”, “can we do something for you?”.. Nothing of those sentences. He just leaves. It is a 5 star hotel. The heater worked, but I had been freezing all the night. It takes time to bring in temperature all the room, furnitures etc. The thermal capacitance is not low. The next morning I leave a message in the room, explaining that it is still cold and that I want to have an extra heater. The evening, coming back from work, I find the radiator in the room. It works and I have a normal temperature room. For me, they keep the radiators off to save energy and money. I am convinced. This would be also correct and reasonable, if you could turn them on some hours before the guests arrive, as many other hotels do. And again for me, the “surprise” of discovering the radiator off was a fake. I cannot prove it, but this was my feeling. The day after I go to work and when I come back I see that the room has not been made up. Mmmmm… strange… How many small mistakes in this 5 star hotel! Go to the reception (yes, I spent definitely an abnormal amount of time at the reception) and ask if there is a particular policy in the hotel for making up the rooms, something like maybe once every two days or similar, because of environment. The answer is “no, rooms are made up every day.” At this point I inform that another inconvenient has occurred, and that my room was not made up. The gentleman looks in a register and says “yes, it has been made up. It is written here!”: I need to reply, as clearly my words are not believed. And again I state: “My room was not made up today”. I was not believed because in the register the room was made out. At this point I started to be irritated and I explain that “I am in a 5 star hotel. Do you think that I have fun in coming here and explaining that the room was not made up? Which game are we playing here?” (obvious solution: “no discussions sir, we’ll change your room”. But this has not happened). So the gentlemen starts to explain me about the definition of “make up a room”, which means just put new shampoos, not making up the bed. This is sooo ridiculous! I have to argument again. “Oh yeah! This is so true that yesterday the bad and everything else was made up”. At this point I ask to talk to the manager. It is 19:00 or 19:30 in the evening. Answer: “There is no manager in duty”. A 5 star hotel has no manager in duty at 19:30. Terrible. Then I ask to be called the day after by the manager, at 08:00. The gentlemen writes down a note and I leave. After some 20 minutes the gentlemen calls me and asks me if I wanted to change the room. Maybe he thought that he exaggerated a bit, I don’t know. I said thanks for thinking about it, I have too much stuff for the job to move at this point, and I also mentioned that the idea came too late. Anyway, better late then never. Thanks but not (indeed I was also afraid to get another igloo room :-) ) Which kind of preparation has the stuff of the Hotel in how to handle customers? Do they have any? Everything seems so much amatorially done that it is really frustrating. The personell at the restaurant shows, again, zero empathy. “You MUST not sit there, this is reserved!” Madame, please, how do I know that it is reserved?” … “It’s written!” “Excuse me, it’s written… where? “ actually it was not written anywhere. The sign was on the table yes, but turned flat on the table, the indication face down. Somebody did a mistake (another one).. but anyway.. is this the way to address your customer? I guess not, especially in a 5 star hotel. But it would not be good enough even for a 3 star hotel. People are too rude there. At the end, this leaves a very bad picture of Sollefteå, a very nice place where people are actually very kind and friendly. But unfortunately the Hotel wants to give another picture of the town and region. Astonished, I started to read the comments on Trip Advisor, and they unfortunately reflect my experience, so I feel I need to add this as well. That hotel has nothing to do with the 5 stars. The stars are not only representing the facilities, also the behaviour of the personnel and the quality of the job done. To my opinion. And regarding the rooms: Bathroom with all the pipes outside the walls. It looks like you are in a power plant. Cheap design. Bathroom is also very small. In practice no amenities in the bathroom. Only shampoo. You get more in a 3 star hotel. View of the room on the behind’s parking. You need to keep the curtains closed all the time. The bed is comfortable. Restaurant: The cuisine was horrible. Just eatable. It seems to be cooked for a large number of people that train sport. and need energy. It was just food, energy. Cuisine is something else. The level of food was absolutely far away from any 5 star indication. Also there, it is a buffet. You get your plate and help yourself. This could be fine. Unless you get from the personnel a dirty plate. You feel something strange on your fingers,, you turn around the plate and see a lot of food rests! BUT I got the plate from the hands of the madame! She didn’t notice it? Possible? Zero care at all? I’ll go back and ask if I can have a CLEAN plate. I get another CLEAN plate. No “sorry,” nothing. Just as nothing was happened. SPA/Pool. Didn’t try it. This is the worst hotel I have been in my last 30 years, almost everywhere in the world. I’ll be back in Sollefteå, lovely city, lovely region, lovely people. But I will NOT go back to that sort of hotel. NOT RECOMMENDED- AVOID IT.
