This Tuscan hill town will transport you back to the Middle Ages. Siena's grand cathedral, built in the 1200s, has treasured artworks and marvelous marble floors. The Piazza del Campo, the main town square, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's also home to the Palio, perhaps the most infamous horserace in the world. No goofy hats and mint juleps here—this is a medieval tradition involving bareback riders racing on cobblestones (so as you might imagine, it's quite dangerous). Siena is an easy daytrip by train from Florence, just 43 miles away.

We had dinner the other night at this marvelous place. Beef tartare served with truffles was awesome, simple yet you will taste the quality of beef and truffles. Risotto is perfectly cooked as well and the lamb is particularly very delicious... and to conclude the awesome dinner we had pannacotta. THE STAFF ARE ALL POLITE AND CHARMING. I cant wait to come back next year....

This resaurant exceeded our expectations, which were very high to begin with! The restaurant is located in an Etruscan grotto that is over 2,000 years old, and they will let you walk through the old wine cellar during your visit. Our waiter was Luca, who was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We had the filet with fresh truffles, tagliatelle with porcini, and eggplant with baked pecorino. It was all delicious! Luca recommended an excellent bottle of Moltalcino wine. The dessert was to die for - tiramisu with La Taverna di San Giuseppe’s reserva grappa. This restaurant was the highlight of our trip to Siena and we would recommend it to anyone any day.

We ate here on the recommendation of our hotel. We arrived as the restaurant opened at 7pm, it filled up very quickly and there was a queue as we left. My beef was ok but my husband's chicken was excellent so we've gone for a 4 as a fair review. Service was helpful and very speedy so don't expect to be there for a leisurely meal.

Located near the Porta Ovile, this restaurant serves a limited number of dishes (antipasti, primi, secondi and dolce) presented on a handwritten menu. The dishes are just exceptional. Among the dishes tried, I ate rabbit with black pepper. This was tasty. The service is fantastic. The wine is served in a very original manner. Walk 15 minutes away from the Piazza del Campo and discover this fantastic place.

A lovely Italian deli tucked behind the main square. Long queue just to get a take away. After a half an hour wait just for a take away we didn't fancy waiting any longer for a table and a platter, although the platters looked delicious we couldn't quite work out how to order them. You also need to be a big fan of strong cheeses. We ordered the pork roll which was amazing! And the sausage and taleggio. The sausage was Italian style and it was like raw sausage and strong cheese.
Lovely atmospheric place, but you do need to be a fan of strong cheeses!

I should clarify upfront - Menchetti is not an independent store, but a pizza/bakery counter located within a large, gourmet foods-tore (Consorzia Agrario Siena, opposite Piazza Salimbeni) – I went in circles trying to find it, but I’m glad we (eventually) did.
We popped by for a quick lunch – you wait in queue with a ticket, place your order and collect when the food comes out of the oven. There are a few tables to stand around and eat, though many patrons do takeaway. The star dish is pizza – sold by the slice/weight – I think we paid under 2€ for each generous and delicious slice.
Very popular with the locals, many of whom seem to drop by for a quick bite from work.

Traditional store with typical products of siena.
Found this small Sandwich shop on the piazza in Siena. Woman that runs it makes your Sandwich fresh as you order it. We shared a baguette with fennel salami, cheese, greens, tomato and oil and balsamic vinegar. Very authentic italian. Wine was also good and the entire cost was 10Euros.

We stayed for a week just down the road and this place was invaluable for bread, milk, cheese, sausages, artichoke, eggplant, wine and all other miscellaneous fantastic Italian deli items. It's got a small dining room where you can eat all the deli items and the wonderful staff look after you as if you were their long lost family.
So, it's not really a proper "restaurant", but if you have been travelling for a while and are fed up with white table cloths and formal restaurant settings then this is the place for you. It has a lovely atmosphere and a very welcome change for the most delicious lunch...just point, smile and they will look after the rest!

The restaurant is located in the heart of Siena. The decor inside is simple but yet welcoming.
The main ingredients are simple and traditional which make the dishes flavourful and familiar.
At the same time you can notice a touch of innovation making the dish more refined. It’s not easy to find a restaurant in Siena capable to combine all these elements; in my opinion Salefino does this perfectly.
The restaurant offers a “menu del giorno” (menu of the day) which changes according to seasons and availability.
Dishes I would recommend:
Linguine Aglio Olio and Pecorino with Cicale di mare (main)
Galletto with sautéed spinach (main)
Salefino has also to offer a broad wine list and a small selection of artisanal beers.
The only “negative” that I could think of is that the tables are incredibly close to each other making the passage quite difficult.
In terms of price, it perfectly reflects the quality of the food. In fact the restaurant was awarded by the Gambero Rosso for the best quality/price restaurant 17/18.

La struttura è temporaneamente chiusa tra il 03/08/2017 e il 13/08/2017. La struttura riaprirà il 14/08/2017. Scusate per l'inconveniente.
Came for lunch. It is essentially a delicatessen with a few tables. Difficult to get a table at busy times. Many people just buying a Sandwich to go. Recommend to sit down and order an antipasti platter and wine. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Just let them put the platter together. Reasonable prices.
