Was there during typhoon and was kind of trapped in the hotel. Luckily there is shop in the hotel for cup noodles and onsen to kill time. We arrived very early and not able to go out due to typhoon. Thanks for the reception to allow us to check in earlier than the actual check in time. The view from the room is awesome even though it’s still a bit far from the whirl. Will be back if visit there again.

Big and outdated hotel. Adequate rooms with beautiful view on the water and ‘vintage’ (but functional) bathrooms. But that’s about all for the good. This hotel comes without services. The bar is permanently closed (minibar empty) and the restaurant can only be used with prior (1 day!) reservation. The reception staff send their guests on the rainy streets of Shodoshima to get some food or a drink. Breakfast is OK if you like fish and noodles. Friendly staff, but they cannot fix what is broke.

I was staying in this hotel for 1 night and dinner and breakfast is included. Dinner was served in the private room with lots of food. Breakfast again was served in the private room. Although the staff in the hotel did not speak much English. They were trying their best to provide the best service they could. The hotel is right opposite to the beach and although coming In winter, the view was still amazing. Also it was only 3 mins walk from a big store/supermarket. Also very close to the port and Angels walkway. I think it had a very good value for money.

Tastefully executed minimalist interior, retaining the true spirit of the traditional Japanese ryokan. Pricey, but for that you really do get the best experience - the night's stay was comfortable, and the dinner/breakfast to accompany it was outstanding. We chose Mari, due to its strategic location - not far by car from any of the Ports connecting it to Takamatsu (Shikoku Island), but also within minutes you can visit the local traditional Shōyu producers - our main objective of this trip (Soy Sauce - about 22 left on the island, from peak 400). The highly sort quality of the island's salt, water and their need to be self sufficient positioned them to be leader in Soy Sauce. We visited, Yamaroku (boutique), Marukin (largest on the island, but 3rd or 4th nation wide), Kinryo... but there are many others. They make Soy Sauce using Kioke (cedar barrels) and the taste is completely different to those of mass producers like Kikkoman. The wonderful Kaiseki dinner theme is based obviously around Soy Sauce - superb meal trying out various seasonal dishes with - light Soy (aged 2yrs), rich (aged 4yrs), Moromi (mash from which the Soy Sauce is squeezed out from) & freshly squeezed. Itamae-san (Chefs) are friendly and accompany every dish with full explanation. Wasabi is grated on the spot in front of you. Rooms are well equipped with modern convenience, though not spoiling the traditional look and theme. Spacious, well thought out, and each section is kept private for guests. Common area serves tea/coffee, as well as local produce based schnapps - peach, apple, various citruses. There are two "Roten-buro" - small private hot spring outdoor baths. After a long day sight seeing, best way to recuperate! Definitely recommend to stay and dine at "Mari" to anyone planning on visiting the island. Probably one of the best places we've been to in Japan.

We had a large double Japanese room so lots of space for less than AUD$100 per night. We were able to use a number of under futons to be more comfortable. The room had a private toilet and hand basin which is unusual in Japanese places. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They will pick you up from Ikeda port and drop you there when you leave or go out sightseeing. Breakfast is ok at 1,300 yen and cheapest dinner is 2,100 yen which was varied and good. They also accommodated my prawn allergy. The accommodation is a little large and institutional but this was outweighed by the comfort of the room and niceness of the staff. Bath was also good and had long hours. There’s a small shop selling local products. I’d definitely stay there again.

This hotel is situated at Port Tonosho, the gateway to Shodo Island and the perfect place to stay for sightseeing. All guest rooms are equipped with a bath and toilet. A large communal onsen (hot springs) bath with sauna is available.
...and an onsen on 2nd floor. What could be better after a day of e-biking around the island? It's a little dated decor-wise, but the rooms are generouly propotioned and of course spotlessly clean. And it has an onsen! Bliss! It's right next to the Tonako ferry wharf, which makes for a quick getaway back to Takamatsu, or a short ride to visit the art on Toshima Island. The hotel hires e-bikes at a reasonable rate, which makes getting around Shadoshima much more convenient than bussing it, although having a car would be best (depending on your fitness and budget). The hotel staff have no English, but hey, that's what Google translate is for. The only downside is that there are few eating options close by that I could find. There is a 7/11, which has lots of pre-prepared food, an onykamaki place that closes at 7pm, and Sakura restaurant run by a little old lady. Other than that, super.

Hotel
The island located in a center of Japan's "Mediterranean Sea"-SETOUCHI, has been proud of many local products. My best recommendation is " Olive", originally imported from Europe long ago. Now, you can enjoy very freshly produced local olive oils, and glocal cuisine. The hotel has only 5 rooms, fully operated for private customers. An exclusive chef, Mr. YAMASHITA promises dedicated menu including mainly Italian cuisine. The hotel surrounded nice view over sea will relax you! * 30-minuite shuttle ferry available from TAKAMATSU sea port

Pros: - dinner was super delicious (esp olive somen, sashimi and the meat) - the service at dinner was great. Lovely lady with a great sense of humour serving us! - good location- 5 mins walk to angel road - great community environment- they held a mochi tsuki taikai last night which was great fun and the tsuki tate omochi delicious! Areas for improvement: - it is like stepping into a time machine back to the 70s and the hotel badly needs some renovation and TLC Overall, not a bad stay- price reflects what if offers!

Small group of 6 of us taking the car to Shodoshima. Decide to stay overnight at Green Plaza cuz it has an outdoor onsen. Lovely hotel near the ferry terminal with transportation, quite location and the outdoor onsen overlooks the sea facing west. Gorgeous view and I loved it. Rooms are small but cosy & clean. The restaurant and the reception area have the better view over the sea.
