I had to stay overnight in Shkoder because the buses to Tirana had stopped working for the night. While I was originally disappointed and the city looked dead, I was lucky that I found the Green Tavern Bar and Grill. Not only do they have very inexpensive food, but they also have a great bar, even with a computer so you can search music on the Internet. The best part of the visit, was the great staff and patrons. Within minutes, I had made several new friends that were all curious why an American was in their city. Before I knew it, I was sitting with them. The staff are really friendly and can speak good English. I highly, highly recommend stopping here when you are in Shkoder. The building is located on the main strip in town.

The immediate area is quite dilapidated and we weren't expecting much for lunch from the restaurant. However the waiter was very friendly and spoke great English. He said that they specialise in fish and meat and he showed us what was good on the menu. There was so much food. The bill came to just 25 euros - incredible value for what we ate and drank (0.5L wine). The waiter saw we were cycling back and handed us two free bottles of water to put on out bikes. Very kind. Doesn't accept card payments.Does accept euros.

After our return from Croatia and Montenegro, here in Shkodra, Albania, our stomachs saw good food. The dishes are full here and the bread is plentiful. Baked bread with olive oil on top. A Peroni 33cl beer here is only 1.20 euros! We ordered store specialties. Crap in the oven cooked with vegetables and eel fish in the tile which was still roasted when we brought it to the table. 9 euros and 10 euros respectively. Full plate with bruschetta with tomatoes and cheese on top and with tuna and mayonnaise. The prices here are fantastic. the service is very good and the child who served us willing to explain everything with a smile. Thanks, we will be back here soon. And in the end we ate fruit, very kind to them. in Croatia and Montenegro no coffee from the restaurant!
