Came here while we were checking out the lake. Itâs a big restaurant in a great location. The service was excellent and the portions were huge - definitely family style. We had soup, a couple salads and penne arrabiatta - everything was delicious and fairly priced!
Like numerous restaurants that are located in the vicinity, Taverna offers some pretty good and fresh fish and other seafood, along with other local foods that are pretty delicious. Reasonably priced and with a superb view of Shkodra lake makes this restaurant a pretty comfortable place to visit when in the region.

After visiting the St. Stephen's Church, I stopped at this restaurant for lunch. I asked to be seated in their non-smoking area since I'm very allergic to smoke. While waiting for my foods, one of the waiters sat at the table next to me and started smoking. I was expecting my waiter to tell him to either stop it or move outside. He did not do either one so I had to move myself to another table.I ordered the risotto with combination seafoods such as mussels, squids, and shrimps. There were no mussels inside the shells when I opened them. I wondered what happened to them! Except for the missing mussels, I enjoyed my risotto.Total of my bill is 490 leks plus tip. This will be my first and last time to eat here due to reasons mentioned above.

Very impressed on entrance to âfishartâ regarding the fresheners of the fish on display. You can always pick if fish is fresh be the eyes of the fish on display.Shared 2 platters of local fish including prawns and salmon fillets plus vegetables. Excellent taste and service.A couple of glasses of local Chardonnay went down well.Would go back if not committed the following night elsewhere.

Upstairs at Vila Bekteshi is a wonderful outdoor eating environment. Overall the food is good, the shrimp tagliatelle was fine, the fillet with wine and ham was OK, while the 'sea fruit' salad was outstanding. The homemade/house red was very drinkable and everything was well priced. My only issue was the number of kids running around the restaurant, but then I guess it's family friendly:-)

I seldom write scathing reviews of restaurants, but this one was truly awful. Don't believe the good reviews - they are probably fake. I ordered grilled seafood (recommended as daily special), which was just very sad, and very expensive. The pickled vegetables salad was OK. My friend's pasta was something we could have made better by ourselves. The service was good and location was attractive..The food was poor, especially given the price. Don't eat here.

21/9/19We three middle aged British guys were had arrived back in Shkodër for one night from a couple of days in Ulcinj. After arriving quite late, checking into our Hotel Kurtabeg, settling in and sorting some shopping for the next day's journey via the lakes to Kosovo, it was 22:00 but we thought that restaurants would still be busy late on a Saturday evening. We checked out a couple of recommendations of traditional food restaurants from the hotel owner but one was empty and looked too posh whilst the other had very loud music in it. I decided to give this place a try as it was very highly rated at #2 and I knew where it was from previous explorations. We arrived around 22:25 to find that the small unassuming entrance opened up into a bigger brighter and modern restaurant. A group of four and a couple were dining so it had some life in it. The friendly waiter showed us one of many tables and I suggested we sit at a table within view of the door so as to attract more people in. The waiter told us that it was late and no one else was expected to arrive. We took his recommended table and as there was no printed menu he proceeded to talk us through the priced up pastas available that were written on the chalkboard above the windows into the kitchen where two chefs were working away. The prices were very reasonable considering the variety and the fact they were all home made.He asked us for our drink preferences, we asked him the if he had house wine price and yes he did at 400 a half litre so we ordered a carafe of each of red and white. He returned with the two carafes and some fizzy water (blue 75cl at 200) and poured them into find large glasses. We had chosen our dishes by then so ordered a spinach salad (300), grilled vegetables (300), seafood stuffed ravioli (550), shrimps & taiolini (650) and a tagliatelle with pesto & spinach (400).The music was delivered from a playlist on a computer via YouTube and was very western and distracting. After listening to and watching 'Sacrifice' by Elton John I asked if he could play Albanian music to which he said he would change the playlist. The resulting music was much better and less distracting but eventually segued into 'Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This' etc. which was a bit disappointing. The waiter delivered a basket with a hot round unleavened bread cut up into six and a large plate with three small rounds of different coloured and flavoured butter. All very nicely presented and welcome as very tasty and quite salty.Shortly after that the spinach, mushroom and red onion salad arrived, dressed in a tasty sauce. We dived into that as the grilled vegetables arrived which were beautifully presented as a hot mound of peppers, aubergine, carrots and courgettes. They were cooked just right but had no sauce on, just seasoning. We had nearly finished the antipasta when my ravioli hearts stuffed with seafood in a shrimp reduction/jus with fried onions, basil and tiny cherry tomatoes. Very nicely presented again and tasting delicious! Then the shrimp dishes came. A good size pile of pasta drenched in a delicious sauce including those tiny succulent tomatoes again, surrounded by five big prawns topped with a bay leaf. Our friend's tagliatelle was again a fair sized mound dressed with pesto and surrounded by basil leaves. He found it very tasty. We all swapped some portions with each other to confirm the quality of the food.We took our time eating even though the other groups had left and the chef had left the kitchen to eat on a table, leaving the junior chef to tidy up. The waiter was very knowledgeable and chatty as he was not under pressure to serve anyone else and he took photos of us and vice versa.I felt I needed a desert to round off the meal and the waiter offered home made tiramisu. It proved to be just right as light, fluffy and not alcoholic, lightly dusted with cocoa powder and sprinkled with tasty pomegranate seeds. It was quite late by now but there was no pressure to hurry up and leave. At 23:45 we had to leave though as we were having to wake up at 05:30 to catch the minibus to the lake ferry. The total bill was 3400 (the tiramisu was only 200) to which we added another 200 tip which our waiter was very grateful. On the way out the waiter asked me if everything was good and if we would give a good review (he missed have sussed me out) and I replied that I would. I also took some pictures which I posted before reviewing this. All around the restaurant were big old photographs showing off local street scenes and the heritage of the building itself. There were also pictures of the main chef as a young man and in Germany where he perfected his art. We left happy and sated, deciding to pop down to (the unlisted) Belle Vue for a final late night drink if it were open. It is a modern lounge bar on a main road near the Witness Museum (which reminds people of the results of intolerance). It was one of our birthdays after midnight so seemed apt. All the bars in the street were closed (including the ex cinema bar) but as we approached it was open but two of its customers on a pavement table were being picked on noisily and aggressively by a bunch of local thugs whilst (equally thuggish I expect) men were racing (70mph +) their big Mercedeses up and down that stretch of the road (roundabouts at each end with one speed bar between). Our quiet birthday drinks were dashed as the thugs spotted our arrival and we decided to return to the centre. So sad that they did not notice the museum's message a few doors down. Albania has a lot of catching up with equality to do if it wants to join The EU.

Completely understand why this place is at the top of the list. It exceeded all of my expectations. To start, it was very aesthetically pleasing. The layout and design was the perfect mixture of comfort and elegance. The food was unbelievably good. Me and my family order a number of different dishes and not one of them disappointed. The lamb and veal were excellent. The cheese platter was also great. Everything on the menu sounded so appetizing and I canât imagine that any plate wouldnât meet any expectations. I seriously recommend this restaurant for any type of craving!
