Shanghai is a huge and sprawling metropolis that draws people to it from all over the world. It’s a place of contradictions where East mixes seamlessly with the West, and where the old is constantly bumping up against the new. Find a neighborhood full of Western comforts, immerse yourself in Shanghainese life, or live in the future today. Few other cities in the world – if any at all – have such a wide range of experiences to offer.

With absolute central location, Blue Mountain BUND Youth Hostel is definitely your BEST choice for exploring Shanghai. 5 minutes' walk from East Nanjing Rd and metro station, and 15 minutes' from the Bund, what more can you ask for?Our hostel provides cozy rooms, customized beds and friendly staff. We offer free Internet access, free movies, pool game, books, and table football. It is always full of fun!
As I had originally planned to take a ferry from Osaka to Shanghai I had booked this hostel - my 3rd stay at this hostel I guess. I like the location, big terrace and laundry facilities. Also very close to the delicious Yang’s fried dumplings. Normally a great location within walking distance from the Bund, during October holiday week it was sometimes difficult to return due to the ‘crowd control’ blocking certain walking directions - but that is obviously not the hostel’s fault. You sometimes need to push the staff a little in order to get what you need, but in general they are helpful and kind.

I enjoyed my stay here. The rooms are clean and modern. The wifi could be better and does crash a lot but for basic task it works fine. There is a small communal area with free coffee, hot water dispenser, fridge freezer and microwave. The rooms do get cold throughout the night. We was next to one of the doors to the outside balcony and the hotel leaves them open 24 hours a day and if you close them they will open them sharply. This does send a cold draft through the hostel and into certain rooms. You do have air conditioning unit that you can set to hot however the room was still a little cold. The front desk are super helpful and cant do enough for you. The young lady working was an actual angel and speaks really good english. The metro station is only a short walk away and is 2 stops away from the peoples square. Outside the hotel are shops selling fruit the one on the right we found to be very expensive but the one on the left was more reasonably priced. You will also find cheap local places to eat within walking distance. Overall I would say this was a good place to stay and I would reccomend it to other travelers.

I recently spent six nights here and thought it was delightful even though my room was on the third floor and there is no elevator. The room was large, nicely decorated, and the service attentive. The Internet service was poor, but I think that is due to government policies rather than local facilities. It is fairly close to a Metro stop and surrounded by interesting restaurants.

Location is okay. very close to metro station.Twin sharing and triple sharing room were okay but very basic. If you just want a roof and a bed then it is a place otherwise not comfortable.Room was clean. There is Indian , Panjabi dhaba (restaurant) very close to it. Eateries and general stores near by. There are irritating 'cats' in the campus which freely roams around.Even if you request they don't do anything about it. Won't stay again.

Even though SOHO is just 10 minutes walk (after you've located it in 20) from the nearest subway, the road along the "riverside" would be so much better off when the work is completed. I struggled with my hand luggage while trying to get there on foot. The host that made up for all the hardships is positively Lilly. She is the epitome of hospitality and I would stay there again. Keep it up girl!!!

The good: - The location is not too bad. Though the metro stations are far, there are bus stops nearby. There are also a lot of tiny eateries and shops in the network of small lanes. If you want nicer restaurants and shops, you will need to walk to the main streets, where you will pay more. - AC worked. They do provide free WiFi, but we were never able to connect due to our phones and sim cards being from the US. The neutral: - The staff is not too friendly - The washer costs 8 RMBs per wash. You have to buy washing powder separately. It does not do a good job washing. - They have "filtered" water through reverse osmosis system, but the water had a weird taste to it--Not sure when the filters were replaced (they are supposed to be cleaned and replaced every 6 months--I know because I have one of those back in the US). The bad: - The rooms were not well cared for and extremely dirty. Granted, the general visible areas are relatively clean, like the visible part of the floor and the bed. But when you look closer, you will see that they don't take care of the place. - Water was leaking from the ceiling into the bed when someone upstairs is taking a shower. You can see the dark mold in the ceiling from the bedroom and the shower (see photos). - We had to move the bed since water was coming on to the bed. When we moved the bed, we saw like an inch of dust and trash under the bed. We ended up cleaning the floor for them because we don't trust them cleaning anything. We should have taken photos of the floor, but we didn't. It seems they have not cleaned under the bed for a long time. - We had to wash our clothes. Since it was raining most of the time when we were there, we decided to hang dry our clothes inside our room. We couldn't find any surface clean enough to hang our clothes, so again we had to clean most of the surfaces just so that we can hang our clothes. We booked this place because of the price and because we are generally pretty tolerant of not-so-nice places. But this is definitely one of the worst places we have ever stayed at.
