Reviews on International food in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. Today the walls of the Ming dynasty and the Tang palace walls hint at the Xi’an’s glorious past. Stare in awe at the Terracotta Army, 7,000 terracotta statues of Qin Bingmayong Bowuguan warriors and soldiers. Dating from 210 BCE, they were discovered in 1974 and are still being excavated. Don't miss the Shaanxi History Museum or a chance to heat up at former imperial bathing spot, Huaqing Hot Springs.

Feast, our all-day-dining restaurant, features western cuisine with Asian favorites prepared in open kitchens and presented on well-designed buffet stations, as well as a la carte menus.
We were 4 adults and all of us were disappointed by the quality of the food. Except seafood for hot pot and fresh fish for sushi and sashimi all the rest was dry, dry and dry even dim sum! It seems that it was the same dishes cooked since 24h. At 258 rmb this is unacceptable. Moreover service was very poor. We were obliged to call all the time the waitresses to clean up the plates as they were hidden on the other side of the restaurant where there was almost no clients.
As I live in Xi'an I've had about half a dozen meals at both Ginkgo restaurants. The one in this review is about a ten minute walk from the Bell Tower (Zhonglou subway stop) and is attached to a hotel down an alleyway called the New Northwest Hotel. The other is in Gaoxin inside a mall and is called Ginkgo Restaurant. This is a fabulous place to eat western food and also Chinese. The emphasis is on Continental cuisine: steaks, salads, chops but it does lean towards Italian. The pizzas are great as are the pasta dishes. There is also a gelato cart which the last time featured gelato with avocado. The calamari ring appetizers are also quite good and aren't fishy which can be a problem ordering this dish in China. It's also a brewpub with its own beer (the tanks are on display in the GinkgoBell) There is also a full bar and during "happy hour" drinks are two for one. The menu is in English too. Della is the owner of the two restaurants and also owns a bakery in Gaoxin which makes the best bread I've had in China. She speaks fluent English and she's usually in this location. This makes ordering easy which is no small matter when you don't speak Chinese, which I don't. Prices are very reasonable too. It's a very comfortable restaurant with tables and booths. Music videos are usually playing in the background and on occasion there is a singer. The Ginkgo Bell Restaurant in the mall is smaller but very modern with tables outside although you're still in a mall setting. You cannot go wrong eating at either of Della's restaurants.
