Located in the historical city centre of a charming town in Transylvania, Leul de Aur is 4* Hotel which welcomes its guest in a wonderful environment of an old inn, resurrected during the past years with a fresh approach, hard work and both caring for the present and cherishing the past. It is said that a long time ago, sometimes lost in the mists of time, Saxon merchandisers came from German territories and decided to make a halt in the mysterious lands of what we now call Romania. Charmed by its beauty and by the prosperity of the common society, they built a burg in the very heart of Transylvania. They placed it at the crossroads of the most important commercial paths and called it Muhlbach, one of the seven citadels that used to guard the lands beneath the Carpathian Mountains. The townlet’s prosperity slowly attracted more and more visitors. That was the main reason why the town’s leaders decided to start building the first inn and which they called Leul de Aur (The Golden Lion). As time went by, Leul de Aur turned to be an important landmark for both the town and its inhabitants with rumours about its services being heard beneath the Romanian borders; from Vienna to Budapest until Levant. The chambers of the charming inn had become a highly sought-after establishment where town’s ruling council used to draw the battle lines and decide the future, while the intellectuals and local artists were cheering up the mood with debates and words of wisdom. Furthermore, it had become a popular destination for feasts, baptisms, weddings or anniversaries for all local common folk. It is said that time never stays still. The famous inn had been no exception to this belief, having lost both its glory and importance for a long, long time. Leul de Aur is now a spectacular reflection of its old glory. A fairy tale inn where travelers can take a comfortable rest in a classical room with modern facilities as well as a welcoming environment for inhabitants to meet and enjoy their favorite dishes, cooked with love and passion for the culinary art. Inspired by the welfare of the old times and by the wisdom of ancient merchandisers, who had the foresight to identify the area’s potential long before it was even a point on a map, the old Leul de Aur Inn becomes a luxurious establishment with 57 4* and 3* rooms, where its former classic style is combined with modern facilities. Launched in 2019, the Seasons wing is an inspiring way to travel through time whilst spending a night in our unique seasonal chambers: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Alternatively, you can choose our Saxon inspired chambers, for an extraordinary journey through Transylvanian culture of over 400 years. Whether You choose the restaurant or the wine-cellar, our cuisine will encourage You to try our delicious wine selection brought especially from the best Romanian vineyards or one of our international liquors. For a complete experience, we recommend that You try our star-dessert, Transylvanian cottage cheese dumplings with jam and a cup of high-quality coffee. If You are in a hurry, our Bistro can offer You a special “home cooked” experience, where You can enjoy your meal in a blink. We are delighted to invite you to join in our fairy tale by being our guests in this historical landmark and enjoy a flawless experience in the middle of Transylvania that we guarantee will be imprinted in your “happily ever after" memories.
For the fourth time we stayed at this wonderful hotel. We always arrived after midnight, but we were always welcomed. Before the pandemic we were received by the person at the reception, after 2020, we were sent the details of how we can stay alone at any time we arrive. Wonderful hotel, incredible people, who love what they do and that's obvious. Thank you and we can't wait to come back!

3 star quality at 1 star prices! Everybody deserves a great stay; hostel prices - hotel accommodations. Close to city center, half hour drive to Alba Iulia ( the historical capital of Romania). And also the closest hotel to the highway ( if you are only going through our town). We partnered with great restaurants to bring you delicious top quality food and beverages. Come take a look
It should not be called HOTEL. There is no air condition in rooms- in the summer!!!!. We had to wait 3 hours for towels as it was not prepared before our arrival, meantime I was taking trips up and down to reception and the only answer was: It will be ready soon.. The food is average. They are serving coffee only in the morning. Definitely avoid this place.

Equestrian Centre with extensive grounds: sand manege for riding lessons, play areas, swimming pool, clay tennis court, barbecue area, herb and vegetable garden.
Located between the Transfargarasan and Transalpina Passes a must stop for weary riders. And if you’re the horse riding type rather than motorcycle there are stables and horse riding lessons available. It has a 15 metre pool and the whole place is set in lovely gardens. Not expensive, very good value for money and the owner is dual Romanian/English so no communication issues.
