Whisky bar , traditional ales and fresh Scottish fayre. Over 200 whiskies available.
I went to Edinburgh this summer and was recommended this place by a friend who had visited the city a couple of years ago. I had an excellent breakfast on my first day and kept coming back up until I left. The service, the food, the atmosphere were very pleasant. I tried other places in the city but couldn't find anything that would beat The Abbey Bar's value.

The building itself is a treasure -- beautiful old wood. The food is quite good and reasonably priced. We found the service a bit lacking -- rather slow even though the place was not that busy.Thank you for your review.

My family and I visit the Pentland Roadhouse and the customer service was fantastic. Very quick service and the portions were big - I stupidly ordered a starter. I never managed to even finish a quarter of my main meal.Recommend going. I did notice that they have bands on certain days of the week.

My husband and I went for dinner and as we have been there before thought it would have been good - it wasn't. The customer service was fantastic - couldn't fault it but the food was shockingly bad and I feel that I've been cheated out of £60. The salad which came with the salad was warm, the chicken strips were tasteless and my main wasn't the best sea bass as it was served with what looked like everybody's left overs. I should have complaint but I was drinking wine and didn't realise how bad it was until I got home. I felt terrible for three days and now just recovering for it. My husband felt the same. We won't be returning.

Called into this bar to wait for a friend who lives locally and to have a pint.On arrival was met by an individual who grunted âcan I help you?â When I asked for a beer it was obviously an inconvenience as the whole transaction took place with no please or thank you.The whole place is set up for serving food, to call the place a pub is stretching it by a long way.More atmosphere on the moon and staff attitude abysmal.

We visited the recently refurbished & reopened Craigie Hotel for lunch over the festive period with a group of friends. The day didn't get off to a good start when the waiting staff couldn't locate our lunch reservation. However, these things happen - so we waited whilst they arranged a table. And waitied....... and waited......... Eventually, some 30 minutes later, we were informed by someone who appeared to be management that a table was available.Once seated, drinks orders were taken and quickly delivered to the table. The earlier wait was beginning to seem like a distant memory already. However... once the young member of staff began to distribute drinks, it soon became apparent that the order bore little resemblance to what was expected by our party. Beers were bottled instead of draught, wine was red instead of white. Ice was served in drinks when it was specifically requested without. Drinks returned, it took a further 15 minutes before everyone seated actually had what they had asked for. Things can only get better now - right? Wrong. The food was a disgrace for a hotel which masquerades as a venue nearer the upper end of the taste and class scale. The sandwiches were reminiscent of a 4am hotel room service snack - both in presentation and taste, and the salads looked like they had been plucked from the 'whoops' section of a supermarket aisle.By this time enough was enough, and a member of our group spoke with a manager. However, despite detailing our disappointments at what had been a very below-par service, the 'manager' offered no explanation and seemed very condescending. Given our spend, I found this astonishing that someone employed in the service industry could behave in this manner. I will be taking this up in writing with the hotel GM at the earliest opportunity. Needless to say, my friend and his wife who were on the verge of booking their summer wedding at this venue have now categorically ruled it out. I would suggest anyone considering the Craigie for lunch, dinner or a wedding reception consider their options very carefully.

I guess the warning signs were there when we saw other customers wiping their feet on the way out as we arrived. I ordered some drinks from the bar. The flies buzzing about engaged me in more conversation than the surliest barman in Scotland. The menus initially promised plenty, but I canât tell you exactly how much as some of the pages were stuck together. In fairness, the starters werenât too bad, and thatâs the only reason Iâve given them a single star, but the main course was quite simply the worst meal Iâve ever had. I made the mistake of ordering the roast dinner - the lamb was like shoe leather, the broccoli was cold and yellow (?) and the Yorkshire pudding had the consistency, taste and texture of a skin graft. The other diners in our party didnât fare much better - the salmon had been poached to within an inch of itâs life and someone nearly lost a filling on their carrots. We passed on pudding, which was just as well because they tried to charge us for food we hadnât ordered, and, letâs be honest, probably wouldnât have wanted, given how the rest of the meal had panned out. Iâm trying to think of a plus... oh yes, I guess the car park was nice and large, which allowed us to get away quickly.

Just a stone's throw from Rosslyn Chapel we fund this to be an excellent lunch stop after our visit. We sat in the pleasant bar area but there's also a large outside area if it's sunny. Professional staff and a sensible bar menu (plus great coffee!).
