If you are travelling from Aberdeen to the North-East coast of Scotland or even into the Cairngorms, you will pass through Turriff, which like so many places has a bypass. If you are looking for lunch, leave the bypass and go into the town centre, where you will find the Poppy Restaurant in the High Street. It is part of the Royal British Legion Club, opposite the 'Turra Coo'. You don't have to be a RBL member to enjoy a lunch, by the resident chef, Linsey Law. Trained with Norry Grierson but a local lass who returned to quieter parts. With a large input of knowledge from her mother, she produces all types of lunch for the hungry traveller, with a strong leaning towards local dishes. Excellent value for money. Cars can be parked for two hours free in the car-park adjoining Tesco, but make sure you have a Pay & Display ticket.

Stopped here on the way home for our supper. We had a standard Haddock and chicken Maryland. The standard Haddock had a crispy batter and was very tasty, the sausage - onion rings & pineapple were all good in the chicken Maryland but the chicken was disappointing âbatter was soggy and the chicken was dry and didnât taste good. The chips were good too.We stopped here numerous times and will stop again but I will choose something different next time.

Blakeshouse is Within Greenwood lock park, travel along a lovely scenic road and teh Restaurant is east to find with ample parking all on level with no steps. The entrance is to the front of the building overlooking a lake and rolling countryside.The restaurant is welcoming and comfortable clean and modern. there is light music playing but not overpowering. there are 2 areas for seating along with some lovely comfortable sofas. We were welcomed and shown to our table, Staff were friendly, well presented and polite they looked happy and were on hand to answer any questions. In Particular Bruce made sure we were all okay, and spoke to me directly about the gluten free/vegetarian options. Also offering recommendations when asked. The time and patience shown when my children were ordering was also very nice. The food was well presented, full of fresh flavours and vibrant colours. very tasty and the portion sizes were satisfying. On this occasion our family had, the Blakeshouse burger, the carvery, a gluten free cheese salad. The children had a ham and cheese pizza and chicken and fries.Finding a gluten free restaurant with so much choice/tasty food is difficult. I felt every bit as catered for as my family which is a wonderful feeling when you have food intolerance. i even had a GF sticky toffee pudding! which tasted amazing. Nice to have choice!A lovely meal out for our wedding anniversary and we were very well looked after. Thank you Blakeshouse.

The restaurant was empty throughout my visit on a quiet Tuesday in April. Service was efficient and served with a smile but little chat. I chose the chicken fillets in batter which was nice. Toilets were spotless. Good value.

My husband and I went for dinner while on holiday and returned because the food was excellent. The tomato, pepper and chorizo soup was delicious and served with a choice of bread. Pork and mushroom casserole with creamy mash and good selection of vegetables was tasty too. Dessert was good as well. Portions are large so make sure you are hungry when you visit. We had fajitas on our second visit and could only manage a fraction of our meal but the waitress boxed it up for us to take away. The menu has a great choice and is reasonably priced. Our bills came to less than £60,including two drinks and a bottle of wine. All members of staff are friendly and attentive. We would definitely return if in the area. Recommend booking for Friday evenings.

My cousins and his family were visiting from Derbyshire so i booked a table, we love the food here, local, fresh and great seafood. Something for everyone and great kids choices. I wish i didn't have to drive and could enjoy the cocktails.
