Reviews on Seafood food in Islay, Scotland, United Kingdom. The Isle of Islay spans 240 square miles, with an impressive 130 miles of coastline. The island is famous for its malt whiskies, and there are eight distilleries on the island. To be sure, many people visit the Isle to tour distilleries and "appreciate" whisky, but the wildlife and scenery are also a big draw. Bird-watching is particularly popular through the year. Just don't try to squeeze it in after a distillery tour or two. Looking through binoculars has been known to make some people woozy, especially after whisky.

Although our food was OK we were disappointed with the slow and disinterested service of the young lady in charge of the dining room. Perhaps as we were the only people there we had interrupted her nap. This really put us off as there are many hotelries on Islay keen to accept our money and be nice to us.

We visited Portnahaven as a family member has a house there and what a beautiful little place it is.The pub come restaurant is a great little place, very friendly and the food is great. My only gripe is the prices, and I get that it is a small place but we got 2 cheese burgers and chips a glass of wine and a pint of lager tops and it came to £31.50Prices aside I would recommend it and will be back.

Three of us had dinner and drinks on our first evening in Port Ellen. We were extremely tired from a very long travel day but got a second wind when we saw the whisky selection. Appetizers, meals, and desserts were all delicious, the service was excellent, and we were even entertained with live music at the end of the night. Our experience was so good, we returned for another evening meal and a breakfast, which was made exceptional by very good espresso.
