The reason for our "expedition" to the Outer Hebrides this past summer (August) was to visit as many of the ancient, megalithic sites as paossible, from Barra to Lewis. When in my research of South Uist sites I came upon the Pollacher Standing Stone in close proximity to the Polochar Inn I knew we were in for a special treat. My wife and I visited the standing stone earlier in the day, so when Rosemary, our host at our B&B, offered to book us a table at the hotel for dinner we were excited that we would get to see the stone in evening light also. But, what about the restaurant and the food? The dining room includes a small bar. The real pub is in another room. For those of us who prefer eating in a quieter atmosphere the dining room is best. The menu was varied and it took some time to decide on our dinners. I ended up choosing the chicken breast over veggies and Mary had the salmon. Both entrees were very good and we certainly did not leave the table hungry. An extra special pleasure for me was that a bottle of Innis & Gunn Original Ale was available from the bar. The view of the sea, past the carpark (with the perky sheep dog), was great!!!

We were staying in a cottage not far from Orasay and in the visitors' book, there were several favourable comments about this restaurant. So it was natural that we should book a dinner reservation - and we were glad we did. The atmosphere was pleasant and welcoming; and the meal was very good. We both had (different) soups; and for main courses, my wife had a seafood dish and I had lamb shank - both memorable. Also memorable was the view from the dining room, where one could see as far as the islands of Rhum and Skye. Our total bill, including two glasses of wine and generously-sized cups of espresso, was under £60 - not unreasonable for a quality meal in this location.

We were staying close to Orosay Inn so it only seemed right that we paid them a visit. We were not disappointed. Fresh food served with local knowledge of where it was sourced. I had Monk fish scampi and my partner had venison, which, melted in the mouth.Go and see for yourself and discover the experience for yourself. You get out of life what you put in and that includes food. Many Thanks
