Popped in here on a Saturday evening while on holiday. We arrived at 6pm and were the only diners however the place soon filled up. My partner had the duck which he felt was a little overdone but good all the same. I later heard another customer being asked by a different staff member how he would like his duck done, we were not asked. My haddock was good though rather large a portion for me personally. Dessert delicious. Will be back.

The mallard

We went to The Mallard for supper. Great atmosphere and varied menu, however the only gluten free meal available that day was a starter of Prawn cocktail! The staff were apologetic and did say they would normally have more options but not on the day we went. We just finished our drinks and left, which was a shame. I really feel more consideration should be made for Coliacs, it's not a choice I want to make , it's medically vital.

My wife and I dropped in without a reservation to grab lunch en route north. We were the only customers in the pleasant conservatory and the service was naturally quick. Good leek soup (£4.10) followed by the daily special, chicken in a barbecue sauce (£10.95) with chips. Glasses of wine are provided in mini bottles (£2.10). We paid just £34.50 for two which was reasonable for a quick, solid lunch. Only complaint was re. The coffees (£2.10 each) which were tasteless.
