Scotland, United Kingdom Food Guide: 10 Soups food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Isle of Skye

July 28, 2020 Cedrick Jardin

Find out what Soups restaurants to try in Isle of Skye. The landscape is dramatic—even a bit moody, with the Cuillin Range in the background—but outdoorsy kids will have a blast on the Isle of Skye. Plenty of water sports are available, and you’ll also find great hiking and even pony rides. Portree, the largest town, makes a great base for exploring this striking island.

We stopped here for a bit of lunch on our last day in Skye. The tables are incredibly close to each other so you have no real room and feel like you're encroaching on other people's meals. The waiter we had forgot our drinks, and when I asked about the menu (as it seems there are misprints and items on some menus that aren't on others - the item in question was 13.95 on mine, but 8.95 on my partners, with no apparent reason why), the waiter just shrugged these differences off and gave a half hearted response, instead of actually going to check. Regardless, I brushed aside these issues as him maybe having a bad day. Until I surveyed around as to what the other staff were doing. Items on the menu being wrongly delivered to each table, starters and mains coming up together (one table had 10 plates on at once because of this - they weren't best pleased), but probably most concerning, was when a half veggie, half meat-eater group ordered their respective haggis's, but they just served whatever haggis they felt like. The food itself was ok, if not a bit greasy - but the portion size was adequate for the price, tasted fairly nice... Although my burger I ordered seemed to come on a plate which was far too small for the meal itself, so eating it was a bit if a struggle. But again, I powered through. It seemed to me that there was severe training issues in this establishment, and in particular with my waiter, he seemed to like spending his time working at the bar rather than hosting in the restaurant. The drinks (when we got them) were nice, they seem to take care of their draught pipes and all glassware was clean.TLDR; cramped, questionable service, wrong things being brought to tables, food not bad.The tables are quite close together but there is room to get between each one. We do have several new staff and I can only apologise that your drinks were forgotten. Regarding menus we shall check them for misprints, thankyou for advising us. Tables do often ask for their meals, especially if they are in a hurry, to all come out altogether and we do try and accommodate this. The veggie haggis and meat haggis do look different and I again can only apologise if the waiter did not point this out to the customer. You state our food was ok I am sorry that you did not rate it higher, all our meat burgers are made in our kitchen, by hand, and are extremely popular. So to recap I do apologise that you didn't think you had the best service, we do have new starts and I apologise that you did not consider them trained enough.

Me and the wife had used the restaurant last year and were delighted with the food and service. Now that it is just a takeaway, we were still looking forward to some pizzas this time round. What a disappointment it turned out to be. Garlic focaccia was ordered and it just seemed to be undercooked pizza dough with a smear of garlic. Terrible. The pizzas were a let down too as the toppings were non existent and they forgot to add other extra toppings. Will not be using this place again.

We had coffee and cake here that were to a high standard although at a price (£12.70). Considering this isn’t a “big city establishment” these prices were rather high, however they did allow dogs into the Yurt, so some bonus. However they don’t allow dogs in Skye Skyns factory or the shop.Thank you for your review and we hope you enjoyed your visit. We do our best to price our goods equitably and keep them low compared to other Skye establishment. The shop and the tannery are not suitable environments for dogs but they are always welcome in the Yurt!

So there are not many options for lunch on the road to and from Neist Point / Lighthouse. So no surprise that the Lephin Cafe was busy. But it keeps the menu simple - panini, sandwiches, cake & drinks - and although we only just found a table and the kitchen was obviously running flat out we didn't wait too long. Good tasting, straightforward food and service with a smile.A little pricey, but not excessively so given the location. We recommend.

Due to the rating on tripadvisor we thought we would give this place a try when passing. We ordered tomato and basil soup with home-bread bread, followed by nougat cake and tiffin. The soup was hot and delicious and the home-bread was soft and dreamy which is exactly what was needed when it was raining outside. Both cakes were made with dark chocolate, very rich but incredible tasty! Inside there is a collection of artwork on sale which is interesting to look at, there were only 3 tables and a weaving machine, the owner does say if you wish a demonstration on how to weave this could be arranged. In the cafe beside the menu, Ellishadder Art Cafe explains how it started and how they grow a lot of the ingredients used which is very inspiring. This is a lovely little place which is worth a visit.
