Local chef showed flashes of classical training - food very well presented and appealingly garnished. All food items prepared to taste as requested. Numerous visits to table by chef to insure satisfaction. Soups and stews were big hits - hearty, meaty, and hot. Great selection of beers.

Booked this for a 14 person family group on the recommendation of my daughter who had had good experiences when she had dined there previously. The restaurant was not busy though there was a small wedding party present. Took a very long time to catch someones attention so that we could order pre lunch drinks in the bar, these also took quite some time to arrive. We were seated in a private room, which was good but again there were very long delays before we were able to order and before the food arrived. We ordered both red and white wine which arrived after the first course had been eaten. Though two wines were ordered there were one glass only per quest on the table and the wine handed over unopened for us to deal with. No additinal glasses were offered. The young staff were pleasant and apparently willing but I assume they and/or the kitchen were struggling to accommodate the wedding party, our group, and a small number of other quests at broadly the same time. The meal itself was average at best.Dear Guest,Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review.I am saddened to read that you did enjoy your afternoon with us for your family gathering. As we take all review seriously I will be looking into the service issues that you have highlighted as this will help improve what we offer.I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations and offer my apologies. If you would like to discuss this further I would be very happy to listen to what you have to say.Kind Regards

The hours provided are for our restaurant, bar is open through the week as well as weekends. Come along for a lovely meal or some drinks at our bar
We were staying in Sky Blue Cottage (a self-catering rental) just a couple of doors away and were recommended to book. The pub is cosy and very friendly. Not only did the landlord make us feel welcome, but so did everyone in the pub. We booked into the restaurant for our meal on the night we arrived (if I remember correctly they only do food over the week-end) and it was fabulous after a long journey to have a good choice of options and a warm, well cooked meal put in front of us.

Make several visits to this little deli throughout the year. Aside from the army of cheeses, oatcakes, olives, chutneys, spirits, chocolates and all other kind of treats for sale - if youâre simply looking for good coffee, tasty cakes or a light lunch; the Olive Tree Deli is the place to go! Lunch options include wraps, baguettes, soups, salads, pastries, quiche and scones - all at very reasonable prices. Traybake cabinet is usually filled with wonders such as lemon drizzle cake, coffee & walnut cake, millionaire shortbread, rocky road, brownies, flapjacks, German biscuits etc etc... There is also a wide variety of drinks on offer such as smoothies, coffees, hot chocolates, teas & juices.Take away is also available!

Very friendly Bistro owner, super breakfast and a very pleasant location. Met the son of the Laird who was most welcoming and shared with us the Carmichael clanâs âfamily historyâ. He even opened up the Farm Food Shop for us. A great location for an over-night stop, and good walks from the car park.Thank you very much for your kind review it was a pleasure

Stopped for a quick lunch en route to Edinburgh - A702 is a very slow road, be warned. No sandwiches suitable for children. A little fairy cake for £3.30!!! Questioned this with the young girl serving - told it was gluten free so more expensive?!?! No customer service skills whatsoever. Very limited choice otherwise. Wonât be back.

A traditional Coaching Inn with 11 individual bedrooms, restaurant, lounge with an open fire, recently extended bar with log burner, function room and beer garden. Shortlisted in the Tourism Awards 2016 and awarded Taste our Best. Free WiFi throughout
We thought that the lunchtime menu had a reasonably wide selection of dishes and there were items available which were not often seen in the average local Hotels we visit in the area. My wife had the Chicken Stroganoff priced at £8.95 and I had the Fish Mornay at £10.95. Both dishes were cooked well and tasted good. A large glass of Chardonnay was £6.95 and a pint of cask ale was £4.15. The overall price of £31 is average for the area and the food was good for the price. The seating in the Bar area is uncomfortable, but there is a very good Dining room situated towards the back of the Hotel. We did book a room for a later visit in the month, but on arrival it didn't suit our needs. However, we cannot fault the food and drinks served at lunchtime. Many thanks for taking the time to review our restaurant at the Elphinstone. We try to cater for all tastes and I am delighted we have succeeded in your case. Our focus is on using quality Scottish ingredients whilst introducing a few different tastes where we can, at a price, we feel represents value for money.

Not been here for ages but called on Sunday late morning when they were VERY busy (that tells you people like it!). Had two delicious bacon and egg rolls, £5, cooked fresh for us, excellent quality and polite, friendly staff. We will be back...love the 'chit chat' by the way.
