Francesca and her team provide wonderful food, prepared fresh from local ingredients in the traditional Calabrian style. My wife and I are counting the days until we return to enjoy La Rondinella, the food, the people and the ambiance - all is perfect. We love finding something new whenever we visit - which is several times a week when in Scalea!

Il Vicolo is a unique wine bar in the old town of San Nicola Arcella. The food and wine are excellent and really good value - served by attentive and friendly staff. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to provide an authentic traditional Calabrese ambiance with light entertainment most evenings in the summer. Guests sit in a courtyard in front of the vineria which makes for a very pleasant evening outdoors... the best place to go for a drink after dinner!

For me this is what makes eating out in Italy so great. It's not a pretentious restaurant, it's not adventurous, it's not a Michelin masterpiece. But what it is; a family-run place, it feels like they've been here for generations, serving all the local specialities made in a time-honoured way, they simply do what they do very very well.
The antipasti della casa are a true delight; a meal onto themselves, a feast of excess, all great flavours, all the local treats you could expect in a Calabrian seaside town.
The rest of the menu was excellent too.....effortlessly good. Top that with some great local wine and our sunday-lunch was perfect.......and we were off for a much-needed rest on the beach!

My friend and I rode our motorcycles all day and stopped at the hotel for the evening to find a wonderful restaurant on site with a beautiful pool, patio and well-kept grounds. We will return for a second ride this coming weekend with a group. Thank you for taking care of all our needs. The food was good, service was excellent, the staff was very hospitality, the atmosphere was very comfortable, very thing was exceptionally clean.

Found this by chance and had a great meal for a very reasonable price the service was efficient and informal and very friendly . The main waiter a slightly older guy was especially pleasant The menu was fairly extensive not just pizza . We ate here twice and enjoyed both occasions .

Great place for fresh, local seafood - caught by local fishermen off the waters in front of you. I had the the cuttlefish pasta which was one of the best dishes I have eaten in Scalea. The restaurant looks great and you are only a few metres from the sea so the views are spectacular especially at sundown. One of the owners is British which helps if you don't speak Italian. Prices are also very reasonable. Well worth a visit (or two).

Fantastic selection of delicious cakes. Staff really friendly. Excellent!!! Nothing like this in Scotland. Love to visit every time we are in Scalea. Have got to know the staff over the years. All our family love to visit when they are over. Have recommended it to all our friends in Scotland. Shame they don't deliver!!!
