Me and my brother arrived here on motorbikes and couldn’t believe the convenience of it to the city centre, the private secure parking and the friendliness of the host. It is literally two minutes walk from the city centre. The place is basic but very clean and perfect for what we needed. Breakfast was simply awesome. :-)

The hostel is situated in various buildings. We have had a room in the building on Meckelstraße 12. It's pretty good situated, not far from the city center and the railway station, the place is quiet enough. The guy from the staff met us in the street, before the entrance to the court and had shown and explained us everything. Though we didn't expect too much from the hostel (as we use the hostels time from time to fit to budget), the room was really too dusty. We had to clean the table and the chairs in the room from the dust. It seemed that the place was rennovated just before our arrival. There was a strong smell of plaster inside. So, it would have been hard to stay there for more than one night. The kitchen and WC were ok.

The worst experience ever! Please only book here if you want to be treated inhumanly! I have never had such a bad experience in my life I had a reservation with them and because of train delay, I was late by 30 min on their check in time, I called them and they just screamed and hang up the phone and disconnected it! Of course, they charged the full amount for a service they didn’t provided. I had to sleep in the street as they didn’t leave any keys! They are not only disrespectful but complete lairs! They claim to Booking.com that I didn’t called, and I a have the record in my phone... They even hang up on to the Booking.com customer service and refuse to give any refund! They should not be able to operate! They have no idea how to treat people!

It gives you a feeling of the Bauhaus-Spirit. The rooms are functional and nice. No lift, because it is the historic student's house of the Bauhaus students. If you can, look at Marianne Brandts historic room.

Nothing stuck out as fantastic but this place was a really comfortable and reliable place to stay for a week-long conference. The food is middle-of-the-road but they had good vegetarian options. The front desk staff took care of everything we needed from letting us in late at night to lending us spare keys when ours got locked in the room. The internet in the lobby and the 3rd floor seminar room was fast enough for video Skype and you pay EUR 5 for 24 hours of access. This means you login with your username and password and the timer counts down as long as you are connected to the web. A single 24-hour card was more than enough for a week of accessing the web several times per day. Finally the location was really good both for access to shopping centers and transportation links.

On our Elbe Radweg trip we stayed in B&Bs, hotels and Jugendherberges and our initial impression of the one in Dessau was not creat - but we were so wrong. The one lady running the whole place that evening saved our day in so many ways. We got our laundry washed and dried for 5 euros, evening meal for 5,50 and beers in the quaint terrace and lobby. Peacefull place despite it being a youth hostel. Location is the only down-side - and the lack of airconditioning on the hot summer days.

Our group of two was very fortunate to get our own room to ourselves, despite the fact there was another bunk bed in the room. The room has a bathroom with a shower. Good size room with plenty of room to walkabout. Room has a small table and chairs and a closet. Depending on how crowded it is (and it usually is in the summer) and the type of guests (youth groups... It is a hostel of course) it can get a bit noisy. We heard some kids on the floor above us having fun in the morning. Good wake up call! As in many hostels, you need to put on your own sheets (provided at check-in). Towels are not included in the room and neither is soap. You can get a very small towel (may need two!) at the front desk. Breakfast and dinner (both buffet) are included in the price. Much better than we expected; in fact, it was very good. Sizeable building with many rooms, lounges, terraces, activity centers, etc. This place caters well to large groups. Parking lot is available but not that many spaces; additional parking on street. Bus stop close by for ride into Wernigerode; healthy walk if you choose to walk. Cost for two people, for two nights, private bath, and meals included was 130 euros. Good value.
