Great Stay, Lovely Hotel

Reviewed By california_usa2020_

We stayed here for 2 nights towards the end of our trip, check in was quick, friendly and easy and we helped ourselves to a bag of free popcorn from the complimentary popcorn cart. The room on the 1st floor was spacious, modern and a very nice room. Bathroom was small which consisted of a bath/shower and outside sink/vanity mirror – usable for 2 people but certainly on the tight side. The hotel grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the pool area was one of our favorite places, especially the Jacuzzi! There is an onsite pool bar serving drinks and playing music to add to the relaxing ambiance. There is ample parking, and the hotel is near a number of restaurants and a short 5-10min drive from Siesta Key, so a great location. Highly recommend!

Perfect Babymoon Spot!

Reviewed By KW252

My husband and I spent a long weekend at the Sarasota Ritz to celebrate our "baby moon" before our first child arrives. The hotel itself is located in downtown Sarasota and is currently (Spring '22) surrounded by quite a bit of construction. However, the hotel is beautiful and has a great bar, restaurant, and pool attached. The service at the pool was lovely and it was tiny and quiet enough to enjoy a slow day. We spent two of our days at the private beach club and used the free shuttle which was very convenient. The beach club has a restaurant, pool (lots of kids, get there early if you want a good seat!), small grab and go cafe, and tons of beach lounges/cabanas/umbrellas. There was also a great little tiki bar/food spot on the beach that we enjoyed. The free shuttle will also take you to St. Armands Circle. This is a great collection of spots to eat and shop. We didn't need to use Uber for the entire weekend (other than to head back to the airport) thanks to the free shuttles! A great weekend getaway for a couple or family!

Wonderful Sarasota Resort on Lido Key!

Spent five nights at Lido Key Resort based on family reviews. What a wonderful facility! Wonderful and accommodating staff, beautiful clean privately owned beach, beach chairs and two pools, one for family, and one for adults. We ate at the Tiki bar on site! Great beach food. Had an 11th floor handicap room overlooking the sound, and above the restaurant. So quiet and peaceful ?. Highly recommend this resort to others. St Armands circle was the best for eating out. Loved the sidewalk caressed closeness to shopping!

Nightmare stay. Resort? Motel.

Reviewed By mattgoodie207

I would not recommend staying at the Sandcastle resort in Lido Key. You may feel like these prior reviews are just over dramatic. However, my friends and I are proof that it is bad and worse than you’d expect. Just a quick overview before we dive deeper. There are cockroaches (palmettos), the staff is unhelpful and lacks empathy, the rooms are extremely outdated, Rooms will not be serviced even with signage, it claims to be a resort but really is a motel, and accommodating a bad experience if you booked through a 3rd party site is not possible. During our 4 night and 5 day stay, our girls trip turned into a nightmare. I’d like to call out that we knew this place was going to be outdated, but never expected the level of uncleanliness we found. Starting off, we found 2 cockroaches in our room. The first one we found was dead. We immediately asked for service in our room and complained. The staff seemed apathetic to our concern and fright. Like it was some regular occurrence. No one made any movements to work to correct this issue until we went back to the front desk a second time and demanded that the cockroach be disposed of, to which we finally received some help. The second time we found a cockroach was, again, within our bathroom, during our last night staying here. We immediately went to the front desk, where we were again met with disinterest and no help. It wasn’t until we went back a second time (again!!) that we were finally offered a solution: to be comped for resort fees OR to move rooms. They genuinely expected us to stay in our room just to receive some money back, when the cockroach was still loose?! So we firmly informed them that we would expect both options, to which we were met with their final proposal: to move to an upstairs room where roaches are “less likely” and to be comped $12.50 per night of our resort fee ($60 total). We were explicitly told with the cockroach issue that we “got what we paid for”. However, at almost $250 a night for our stay, cleanliness should be a given? It’s absurd to use the supposed “cheapness” of our booking as an excuse for a violation of health code. Not to mention, our room was serviced once during our four night stay, despite the maid service magnet being placed on our door during the entirety of our stay. The combination of the palmetto roaches (dead & alive) as well as the uncleanliness of our room and lack of fresh bedding, toilet paper, and overall cleanliness is simply unacceptable at a hotel (like alone a self-proclaimed “resort”) regardless of the nightly rate. Other things to note are the toilet that runs all night, the drain in the shower that was sloppily painted over, the dust coating the room, the frighteningly stained carpet leading to rooms on the second level, and the absolutely repulsive smell coming from the poolside bar. Additionally, all 3 of us scream bloody murder on 3 separate occasions upon encountering the live palmetto roach, and no one from hotel staff came to check on us. As 3 women, this didn’t make us feel the safest. Beware of booking this hotel with a 3rd party booking site or travel portal. Sandcastle refused to comp us for a night of our stay after all of these issues since I booked with a 3rd party site. I used my Chase points to purchase this stay. I was expecting this to be classy enough since it was featured on their portal, but that is not the case. The food at the “resort” is something you should avoid, it’s overpriced and reheated. The only thing decent about this hotel was the location on lido key and the shuttle to the center of town (that no one made us aware of until our last full day of our trip unfortunately). In conclusion, if you are okay with rude staff, unclean/outdated rooms, motel vibes, and Cockroaches, then this may be the stay for you.

Great location but really showing its age

Reviewed By antonialL9781WG

This is where we always stay when going to Lido beach. Great location, wonderful views of the beautiful Gulf beach and an easy walk to St Armond's Circle. Our room was clean. It is time for reinvestment into this property. Our room a/c worked but strained (it was hot humid ~90). Lobby was uncomfortably warm. People were going from floor to floor to find a working ice machine. The pool was having issues. The last bathroom update, instead of replacing the old tub they inserted a vinyl/acrylic liner, it moved underfoot and a big lump could be felt, it was clean but felt unstable. The little things didn't work, like bathroom exhaust fan, desk light, bed light. Staff were mostly friendly, toward the end of season its common for resort staff to tire of answering the same questions hundreds of times a day. Amazing location, but unless there is a reported update/upgrade we will probably look elsewhere for the next trip.
