El Salvador's capital, San Salvador, is a modern city of wide boulevards and narrow streets, outdoor markets, government buildings, high-rises, monuments, an exuberant nightlife, museums and other cultural institutions. And all set against the backdrop of San Salvador volcano. The city is surrounded by shantytowns as well as affluent suburbs with restaurants and large shopping malls. Peaceful settings such as the botanic garden of Parque Cuscutlan provide a break from the city's hectic pace.

We went as a group of 5 people. Large menu of great choices. Something for everyone. The steaks were perfectly cooked and tender and delicious. The service was also extraordinary in every way. Check your factura at the end, they add a tip so you do not have to tip twice! The only negative on the night we went was the singer who was there had the volume turned up so high we could not speak to each other. My ears hurt by the time we left.

The best steakhouse in El Salvador with a Latin twist. For our team, our customer's are the priority; that's why we offer only the best quality in every dish.
Los Ranchos is located in La Gran Via in El Salvador. This is a mall with an open plaza and a good number of restaurants. Service at Los Ranchos was excellent starting with the greeter. Food was quite good and served promptly. And prices really fair.

If anyone ever tells you that it is just about the food they have never been to a country mountain top restaurant. Here the environment is everything, getting away from the stereotypical restaurant, be it in Chicago, NY, Boston, San Francisco, LA, wherever, at the end of the day the decoration and layout may be different but they are all basically the same so it really is just about the food. This place is a breath of fresh air (literally) and you will feel relaxed and at peace no matter what you eat. Regarding the food, our waiter was kind enough to bring out the different cuts of beef and explain them to us (this is not what they typically do here), as in any good Argentinian Restaurant everything is cooked on a raging (I believe, wood) fire. Our appetizers were great, our beef was very good, the drinks were excellent and the experience was fantastic. It is about 35 minutes from the city if there is no traffic (good luck with that) there is free parking and there are other similar restaurants in the general area if you don't want beef.

This is a small uruguan place with great food at low prices in a pleasant low key ambience
This restaurant was within walking distance of our hotel. It was difficult for us to find at first, it didn't display correctly in Google maps. I am glad we were persistent in finding it though, it was one of our favorite restaurants of our stay.We both ordered platters which had a variety of meats. One was the "Gaucho" which had a steak, chicken, pork, chirizo, and potato. The other was the Uruguayan which had steak, chirizo and a variety of 4 organs such as heart. Both platters also came with bread, salad, sauces and consomme. Absolutely delicious! Each platter was in the $9-10 range, unreal!

The place is located in the top roof of a big house where you can enjoy different steak cuts and chorizos with a good flavor at a good price, is a trendy after office restaurant.

For my birthday, my Mom and one of her friends decided on taking me to A Fuego Lento. I had never heard of the place, but I decided to let them take me to discover a new spot on the map. And, boy, this was a pleasant surprise. The signature dish is Paella Valenciana, a Spanish delicacy, and let me tell you it is good (not excellent, but good). My choice was Paella Mixta (rice with seafood and pork and chicken meat, among other ingredients) and it was the right one. Value is excellent when you take into account that for $9.95 you get an entree (salad), the main dish (a regular-to-big Paella), and a small dessert (a small piece of vainilla ice cream). In addition, my drink choice was a "fresco de ensalada" (juice with a variety of chopped fruits). The place was clean, we got exactly what we ordered, service speed was incredibly fast (the food was ready in less than 10 minutes). The only sour spot is the atmosphere: in a Spanish-food restaurant, you expect a Spaniard-type decoration plus music from the peninsula. We found none of these: the house where the restaurant is located is very plain and the music playing was standard American pop fare, plus an interlude of live marimba music. All in all, a surprising place where I would visit again to savor the Paella once more.

It was an excellent dinner. Good service. Open kitchen concept. Locals mainly, wry nice atmosphere. Birthday celebrations at quite a few tables. Entraña was fantastic! I was very close to order another one, but decided to leave space for desserts. And rightly so! Banana cake was superb, so was flan. Starters were a bit less impressive, compared to main courses, I would say leave out salmon carpaccio- it has to be eaten in northern hemisphere :), focus on local stuff instead.
