Looking for an unusual and beautiful landscape? Sandstone canyons, flamingo-dotted salt flats, steaming geysers, hot springs, volcanic peaks and alien-looking rock formations are on offer all around San Pedro de Atacama. Hiking, biking and horseback riding are the preferred means of exploration. Death Valley here is surprisingly great for picnics.

This is a small, 11-12 room “lodge” - hostel type of lodging. The rooms were small, clean, with a newly remodeled bathroom. The staff was friendly but very limited English, if that’s an issue. Breakfast was ok, certainly nothing special. We were provided a bag breakfast when leaving before they opened for breakfast. The biggest negative was that our room was very hot, no AC, just a fan. Location was ok, good, 5 minute walk to the Main Street.

Small place, a bit simple but very clean. Enjoyed our 5 days a lot. 10 min walk to center only, supermarket is arround the corner. Laundry next door. Trips can be arranged by owner. Would come back again for sure!

Lodge Rukazen started 10 years ago, as a familiar place, to enjoy nature, tranquility and special landscape. Eventually we wanted to share the wonder of our discovery. Today, we have designed a space thinking about your health and wellness. In Rukazen you feel at home. We as the times passes by, during this hard crisis, we are taking all the measurements to ensure the wellbeing of our guest. Everyday we feel more prepare to give our guest the best experience with the quality and love that sets Atacama Lodge Ruka Zen a place to rest and recover.
Located on the outskirts of San Pedro, and I mean the outskirts, this charmingly rustic hotel is quiet, welcoming and secluded. This is important, because many of the hotels in the town are noisy and over-crowded. Allows space for rest, conversation, reading, etc., about a 15 minute drive from the center of town. there is a comfortable TV room, dining room, outdoor spaces to read and converse. The problem can be at night, since there is no owner representative staying at the hotel between 8pm and 7:30am. If the heater or the hot water equipment runs out of gas, or something else transpires, you're out of luck until the morning. During the day, the staff is happy to address any issues that occur. Perhaps the hotel will address this problem, which we encountered, and which marred an otherwise lovely stay. The staff is welcoming and friendly, they prepare good breakfasts with made-to-order omelets, the prices are reasonable. The rooms are decent and, at its best, the showers work well. The pool didn't seem usable. A smart visitor will check all of this out upon arrival, when the front desk is still there. I would strongly recommend this place, but just be aware.

I followed a newfound friend here, and found this good for one night. I stayed in a HUGE dorm, but each bed had its own outlet and the room was big. There were a lot of people staying here, so it is easy to meet people. I appreciated that it was dead quiet by 11 pm, though. Breakfast is 15 pesos. They leave you to your own to make your own eggs, and butter your own toast. The kitchen has all you might need, and is of a decent size. You can also buy water or alcohol from the front desk. The wifi sucks, but the location is great.

Beside the dirt all over the place, the bathrooms in particular, the owners (father and son) were really disrespectful and tried every possible trick to extort money from us. The father acted with violence. Awful experience!

German My friends left your lodge yesterday but were definitely not happy. They found it highly strange that you would come to see them only a few times over the four-day stay. You never asked how things were and it they needed anything. They found the room hot and thought you might offer them a fan. You didn't. In fact it was Rene, your staff who took care of my friends. They never did get a fan. One day Rene had to clean up a very large brown, wet spot where the rain had come through the ceiling combined with the dust and dirt from the ceiling. You know the ceiling is straw? Because there was no one around to ask for help, the woman went to your open air area where my friends had breakfast to get some pots and pans to collect the water. The water just missed her baggage. Rene was very good helping my friends, but you, the owner, were nowhere to be found. And then yesterday when my friends checked out, you were no where to be found again, and after talking to Ricardo, my guide, who phoned you, you said you were on vacation. You weren't even around to discuss the problems. Ricardo told you the problems over the phone and you said you would call back after talking to Rene to confirm the problems and thinking about a reduction. You never called. We had to leave to get to the airport. In fact, we now don't believe you were away on vacation but rather did not want to see us. You know the access to your hotel is difficult having to cross a dry riverbed which we had to negotiate at night when we arrived not knowing where we were going. You never gave us any instructions how to get to your lodge prior to our arrival. It was only after about an hour and using Google that we found the lodge. And by then it was around 10 p.m. or so. And then when the rains came and the river swelled 2 days later, we had to ask in the town how to find another way to get to your hotel. As you know, Ricardo and I where in a small bungalow across the river. We spent 30 minutes each way getting to our friends the long way around. You never told us what to do it the river swelled. You gave us no map guiding us to your lodge. In fact you left my friends on their own except for Rene. You did give Ricardo a map of Chile for the sites but that was all. To find your lodge both when crossing the dry riverbed and going the long way around when the river swelled was river told to us. In fact you never told us about the situation crossing a dry riverbed when we set out to find your lodge. And we had to negotiate at night. I also now understand why Ricardo and I couldn't stay in your other small rooms when we arrived late on February 13 after driving from Calama and asking you if we could stay. We hadn't found rooms yet. You said your rooms were full and yet we never saw any other guests when I came each day to get my friends and noone else ate breakfast. In fact the only time I saw you over the 4 days was when I saw you lifting plastic sheets over the roofs of the small rooms. I didn't know it then but I now know you felt there was a good chance of rain which it did later. In other words, the rooms leaked. You were not honest with us. And my friends room leaked as well. You had to know this and as you know, the ceiling / roof is grass and branches. With all the problems, my friends stuck it out at your lodge which you know is remote, hard to get to and badly constructed. They stayed the 4 nights only because I had already paid and they knew it would be difficult to find another room as this is the high season for tourists. It was also because of Rene, your staff member. He tried everything to make them more comfortable including breakfasts and you were not even around for breakfasts. I have talked with my credit card company. I told them that any charge you make for the room will be disputed. If you had been fair and at least phoned Ricardo back to see what you could offer as a reduction I would not have had to contact the credit card company. As well, we are tourists and as such pay no tax but you did not tell us this. I will be disputing the entire cost you charged me. It is total misrepresentation what you state on your website and the actual situation you put my friends in. I ask that you cancel the entire costs you charged me but I'm afraid I know your character now. You put the minimum in your lodge, which really consists of only one room where my friends stayed and 4 small rooms which are not habitable. The photos you put up on your web are truely misleading. As well, we will all be filing complaints with TripAdvisor. Others must know about your lodge and your character. We have taken photos of the room. M. Stark

Simply, you will get surprisingly a lot for the price paid. We stayed here for one week in February 2020 and were able to organize all the trips with the assistance of receptionists, since the hotel offers a complete package of various trips - for reasonable prices. Excellent! The hotel offers an extraordinary breakfast including various meal plans and when we add fresh smoothie every day so nothing is missing to perfection. In addition, if you have to skip breakfast because of the trip, the hotel will prepare a breakfast package and a thermos flask with coca tea for you. Awesome. It should also be noted that tea, coffee and purified water are available in the dining room throughout the day freely. The hotel area is well kept, there are many tastefully and stylishly furnished places to rest outside or inside, to enjoy your drink or just to write e-mails. Our room was clean and functional. We had a quite weak wifi connection in the room, but there are many places within the hotel area with better connection, so we did not perceive it problematic. Hotel llamas are a complete stylish bonus. In 10-15 minutes by feet, you reach the city center with all the restaurants, bars, travel agencies, banks and shops. We definitely recommend the hotel and we would definitely like to go back there.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights during a recent visit to the Atacama desert. The property is divided into both a hostel and a hotel. I stayed in the hotel portion. The staf at the hotel were very accommodating and helpful in trying to support all of our needs. The continental breakfast was well appointed with plenty of juices, cereals, breads and hot foods, including eggs. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. We enjoyed ending the day hanging out on the communal patio with some beer from the local convenience store. The only downside was the temperature of the water in the shower. It was hard to consistently keep it at a warm comfortable temperature as it usually shifted between hot and cold, which isn't surprising considering the desert location. Overall we had a great stay and I would recommend this hotel if you plan to stay in downtown San Pedro de Atacama.
