Comfy and colorful hostel right at the heart of San Luis, with an amazing and relaxing vibe. We have a terrace, lounge area, hammock, tv, board games and everything needed so you feel at home.
September 14th, I checked into Sukha hostel, when I came from three months in Playa del Carmen. When I first arrived, it seemed like a phenomenal hostel. It was very quiet my first couple days, just myself, the manager Paco, and the two volunteers Karla and Alexa. Several days later, after other guests had left, Karla told me that had Alexa complained to her that I was cockblocking her when she was talking to a guest Stefan. I didn’t even know the circumstances of what she was talking about but found it incredibly offensive, even in a hostel, that a volunteer/ employee would speak about a customer like that. I stopped interacting with Alexa at that point as I don’t want to deal with any confrontation. Apparently, Karla told Alexa that she told me what Alexa said. Alexa tried to deflect while we were in the common area, saying she was joking, but clearly it was not joking if it was repeated back to me as, “she said she wished you weren’t there.” I planned on extending two more weeks at the hostel, but further circumstances made me switch to another place. Throughout my stay, the cousin of the owner would come to the hostel to bang local girls or party if he didn’t have one to bang. Bear in mind he is not a paying guest, he would just arbitrarily show up with a female or a bunch of local guys who want to drink. This is incredibly offensive for a multitude of reasons. Customers are paying for security and peace while traveling; having someone who brings in multiple random characters to have sex with and party defies both those. Several nights before I switched, one of the volunteers Karla, had a friend visit who was also volunteering in Mexico. Without fail, Alex’s cousin showed up with 5 or 6 other people, who proceeded to blast music and party until 5:00am, regardless of the sleep of actual paying customers. When I was awoken at 3:30am, I spoke to Paco in the common area who said he understood but did nothing to end the noise or party. I asked him for Alex’s Whats App, and he said he would give it to me the next day, but never did. Alex actually showed up the day before I left, but failed to address the concerns I raised, so clearly he believes it is ok for him to run his business this way, bringing in random people to drink and screw, while paying guests are habitating and sleeping. It is regrettable that I am leaving this review, as Paco is a really good guy, but evidently what I said about strangers went in one ear and came out the other; this is my last night here and this wannabe lothario came and stayed last night and is here again tonight. If anyone needs proof, or wishes to contest my account, I can provide photos and recordings of that raucous night. I suppose some people would stay here and not mind groups coming and going for free, but I personally find it despicable when other people are paying for the space. I will be charging back the full stay with the bank for not as described. Alex can reach out to me if he wishes to make this right.

Overall I had an awesome stay! The staff was extremely friendly and kind, and super helpful. Everything was really clean the beds and the rooms. They provided fresh fruit for breakfast mangos and papayas, and it is located in a central and safe neighborhood. They provided towels and linens. The only thing I would wish is that the shower would be a little cooler water and more pressure and that we could use the A.C. during the day since we could only use it overnight which honestly you don't really need it in the daytime since your out anyways. Overall, I would highly recommend it for the price and great customer service! Gracias Hostal Casa Huasteca :)

Long overdue review but Casa Kima is one of the best hostels I've stayed at in years of travel and 6 months in Mexico! The guys who run it are absolutely amazing and will treat you as an old friend from the moment they meet you. They are super knowledgeable about the area and took us to some amazingly beautiful spots. The dorms are very well set-up (individual single beds a great idea) and spotlessly clean. I hope I can go back one day! Highly recommended! x

I arrived in San Luis Potosi with high hopes of seeing both the city and state’s beauty and learning their history. My intentions were to hire a guide recommended by a travel book (L.P.) and travel the area for seven days. Upon arrival, I immediately headed to “the SLP based tour operator most used to working with foreign tourists and run by a friendly and knowledgeable English-speaking” agent. Well, that was a bust…the agent spoke no English and after obtaining an interpreter, I discovered that they offered only one tour and that was to Guanajuato, which is a nice city, but it is located in an adjacent state and I had already been there several times before. What I did glean from her was the name of another agency that may have tours within the state of San Luis Potosi…they did not! But he did dial and let me talk to a private guide, Miguel who did speak perfect English, but unfortunately he was tied up with a group for the next five days. Now, what do I do for the next seven days? I could rent a car, but I would not know what I was seeing! Finally, my week was saved when Miguel gave me the name of a colleague, Isaac Perez Vazquez. Isaac and his company, Corazon De Xoconostle came to my rescue. I could not begin to say enough good thinks about Isaac and his service. First off, having been a high school English teacher, he spoke fluent English…not broken English, but fluent English. After clearing his schedule for me, the first day we drove the three hour drive to Real de Catorce and toured the city, tunnels, the cultural center (which currently featured an exhibit on Peyote) and took a jeep ride through the mountains to the original silver mine. Day two took us through the scenic mountains to Tanchachin. Here we took a row boat upstream to view the Tomul Waterfall. We then drove to Aquismon to visit Sotano de las Golondrinas, where the swallows return each evening to the world’s sixth deepest cave. I believe the viewing is best in the morning, but the evening was still spectacular. We stayed overnight in Xilitla so we could tour Las Pozas & Edmond James’ Gardens early. Isaac hired a local guide to show us around and later we visited Museo Leonora Carrington and drove to Axtla de Terreza to tour Beto Ramon Para la Salud. We overnighted in Ciudad Valle and the next day we visited a game preserve to see Pumas and Jaguars. After the 3.5 hour return drive, Isaac and I parted as friends who will hopefully meet again. Thank you Isaac!

Hikuri Hostel is located in the centre of the beautiful city of San Luis Potosi. The place was founded with the concept of recycling materials to make the furniture, trying to help the environment as much as we can. The hostel has spacious bedrooms, (2 private and 4 shared), each one with lockers that will help you to feel more safe. As you walk in, you will feel welcomed with a nice reception and a common roomadditionally you can enjoy the shared kitchen and the large roof top terrace. With free WiFi, hot water, clean linen, tour desk and a friendly and international staff, you will feel like part of the family and you will meet interesting and funny people to hang out with. The Hostel is located in the heart of the town, just a couple of blocks from "Plaza Fundadores" and "Plaza de Armas", it's surrounded by restaurant, bars, shops, clubs and within walking distance to all major attractions and interesting spots of the city. The bus stop is just one block away.
Really - I've been in hostels all over the world, this one is in my Top 10. Why : - The architecture is the first thing. Very nice from the inside, with this inside terrace, different levels, very spacy feeling. Then I would give a point for the interior design, which is just awesome. As well the big terrace, which can host more than one party at a time. Let's not forget, that it's very close to everything in the city center but at the same time very easy to get to bigger boulevard and get a bus or taxi. And the staff is awesome. They are so FRIENDLY. What can be done better : Get showers in the rooms, together with the WC which is already there. i honestly can't think what else can be better. PS. The place is not noisy at all, as one of the other reviews is stating. This was a concern for me when I decided to go there, but it was nice and quiet exactly in the same dorm where this person had stayed (next to the common area). There are way noisier hostels.

Welcome to your home away from home! Hostel El Virrey is located in one of the best places in San Luis de Potosi, near our main avenue, Venustiano Carranza. You can have a pleasant stay in our friendly hostel since we do not have large groups, just travelleres enjoying an experience that they will never forget. It is the nearest hostel to the historic centre and to places to visit.

Miguel Angel was very polite, nice and helpful. So was the rest of staff. The room was very comfortable with lots of space for us. Bathtub with hot shower helped us rest after a tiresome day. Internet was very good too. Quiet neighborhood. We slept well. We can't say it is central, but Xilitla is a small town and you can hit the main square in a five to ten minute walk up the hill.
