San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec (Nahuatl languages: Tōchtepēc, "on the hill of rabbits"), or simply referred to as Tuxtepec, is the head of the municipality by the same name and is the second most populous city of the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It is part of the Tuxtepec District of the Papaloapan Region. As of the 2005 census, the city is home to a population of 94,209 and 144,555 in the municipality (0.979% of the state population), though census data are often under reported for various reasons. The municipality resides in the region called La Cuenca (Spanish for “The Basin”), is located 36 feet above sea level, and occupies an area of approximately 580 square miles (1,500 km). The city itself is surrounded by the Papaloapan River, and lies a few kilometers south of the Cerro de Oro Dam on its tributary the Santo Domingo River. The municipality is bordered by the state of Veracruz in the north, the municipalities of Loma Bonita to the east and San José Chiltepec to the south. It is almost 100 miles (160 km) to the port of Veracruz, 130 miles (210 km) to Oaxaca City, the state capital, and 310 miles (500 km) to Mexico City.

Very safe bet for Oaxacan fair, clean restaurant and the staff are kind and cordial. Wide range of dishes to choose from, fewer vegetarian dishes of course of still a nice selection, compared to what I expect one will find in the rest of Tuxtepec. I was only passing through the city one night, and issued at the hotel where the restaurant is located, in part because reviews were so good for the restaurant and I thought it would make it easier to stay here before leaving first thing in the morning. It did! I just wouldn't rave about the restaurant as though it's an amazing experience in gastronomy. I got the empanadas especiales (plantain dumplings filed with ground meat) to start, three large fried dumplings . They were yummy, though if have liked them better stuffed with traditional beans instead of meat. Rather they were served with a tostada shell filled with beans. This appetizer could easily be an entree. I also got a shrimp plate "al ajo" with garlic, served with rice and a standard iceberg lettuce garnish/salad. It was average, only slightly over cooked and slightly over salted. I've become amused to that in Mexican restaurants, though as a chef myself, won't let folks off the hook for it! The agua de malanga (accompanied by the slow food logo) was delicious, just a little too much sugar! I certainly wouldn't have considered this restaurant a slow food establishment based on the food, but appreciate the Mission of sourcing food from small farmers and preparing local traditional dishes, of which. There 6 or fewer on the menu of about 60 options total.

Good buffet but kind of pricey. The servers bring meat to your table to try. Has private room for parties.
Good service. On buffet has different kinds of salads and soup. Usually have fried Bannans with cheese and cream. This is typical food from Tuxtepec. On the week-ends has live music in Spanish and in English.
We are family restaurant with friendly attention and good flavor. Ideal for a good time with family our friends.

Restaurant bar, located in one of the best areas of the beautiful city of tuxtepec, with a new, fresh, different and innovative concept in which we have very good food, space, concept and above all, very good mezcal drinks and cocktails.
