We visited over the New Year period for a well earned break and some skiing. The Hotel was easy to book via the internet and a couple of phone calls to confirm a table for the New Years eve dinner. Our room was adequately sized with a lovely on suite and very clean with excellent Wi-Fi and a TV with English speaking programs. The double room was two big singles together but so comfortable and very quiet. Unfortunately there are no tea and coffee facilities in the room however the reception were happy to provide a flask of hot water and cups on request. The breakfast is buffet style and has everything you could want from hot and cold food yoghurt, cereal, breads, fruit, tea , coffee, fruit juice the list is endless. All of the staff speak fantastic English and are really polite and helpful, we would definitely come back again. The main ski slopes are a two minute drive away with lots of free parking available, the hotel has easy access to a ski/boot room from the car park round the back so you don't have to keep everything in your room. The hotel has an amazing restaurant with staff happy to explain the non English printed menu and a nice friendly bar area for after dinner or pre dinner drinks. If you did not want to eat in the hotel every night there is a good choice of local restaurants no more than a five minute walk away, I would recommend booking the day before as they all get busy.

The room was not properly cleaned before our arrival, with trash left in the bin from the previous guests. Otherwise it was an ok room, with some tacky elements in the decor. In addition the included dinner was not living up to the expectations set by the website and price. The timing of the two courses was way of, where they fetched the plates from the first almost before we were done with it, but then the second took super long.

STF Hostel Salen is located in a scenic area of the Swedish mountains, about 25 km from Salen village. Conservation Areas and National Parks surrounds the hostel. An excellent starting point for summer and winter activities such as hiking, fly fishing, downhill skiing at either Salen or Trysil Mountain range. Cross country ski trails outside your front door.
We had a faboulous few days here over the midsummer weekend. Lovely clean room, hot sauna and great breakfast. Mark that runs the place is a character and looked after us well. And not to mention great fishing at the river just below the guest house! We booked the drive and hike and Mark gave great advice and dropped us off with tips for which routes to take and what to see. Fantastic weekend hiking with spectacular views. The Kungsleden runs past close by with loads of different routes for all tastes. Highly recomend this place to anyone looking for a break in the mountains.

This is a cheap spot, close to Salen. We stayed here since my brothers were doing the Vasaloppet ski race. The room was 1800 kr for 4 people. Breakfast was an additional 100 kr per person, so only the two that were skiing though it was worth it. The room was super tiny and it didn't have a window that you could open so it was hard to breathe. The walls are so thin, so when anyone in any next door rooms sneezed and or did anything else you can hear it. Also, there is only one bathroom and shower for many rooms so you had to wait in line. Wifi did not work, so don't expect to use it! I would say it is fine for what you pay for and if your expectations are low, you won't be disappointed.

We stayed in a family room while visiting Salen for our ski trip. The room was spacious and everything was neat and clean. The family room was located on the upper level. It has a queen bed and 2 bunks in a separate room. The setting was just nice for a family of four. Linens were clean, beds and pillows were comfortable. There were also plenty of hooks for us to hang our winter and ski suits. Breakfast was served in another building next to ours where the host lived. A car is probably needed to get to the Salen Ski Resort.
