Named from the anglicized form of the Hebrew word "shalom," meaning peace, Salem provides visitors with exactly that - plus a horde of historic sites to explore and plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Oregon's capital, one of the oldest cities in the state, exudes simple, small-town hospitality with just enough politics and culture to keep things interesting. Tour the grand, gold-domed State Capitol to learn about the workings of the government, then head to the observation deck for a fantastic view of Salem and its surrounding area. Although the whole city is a living history lesson, brimming with old buildings and landmarks, the Mill Mission Museum is a definite standout. Art buffs should not miss the impressive Pacific Northwest collection at the Hallie Ford Art Museum. In between sights, take time to people watch or picnic at Bush's Pasture Park, or enjoy wine tasting at some of the local vineyards. Salem's idyllic setting, in the heart of the emerald Willamette Valley, coupled with its historic role as political hub for Oregon make it the perfect choice for a delightful and interesting weekend away.

This is a nice hotel with a nice roomy room. The breakfast was pretty good, with the nicest area to sit and eat that I've ever seen. They had individual booths with TVs in them, when most hotels with free breakfast have an over crowded area with never enough seating. We experienced friendly staff, and it has a great location to walk the city.

Yes, I would recommend this hotel. It was clean and had good breakfast. Would stay here again. And wish more hotels (Marriott - hey you listening?) - would have and continue to have in ALL rooms most important amenity, besides complimentary shampoo, soap, that ever important - Luggage Rack! Yes, it's great not to put our luggage on the floor nor on the bed. Keeps comforter, beds, etc cleaner!

The staff was very friendly and the lobby very clean. The room and hallways were pretty quiet, which I appreciated . Unfortunately not all the guests felt that the no smoking rule applied to them as the powerful smell of marijuana was present in the hallway on my floor several times, and not just coming from one room. The hotel is next door to a cannabis dispensary and, in fact, there are several (dispensaries) within a few blocks of the hotel. This is likely a contributing factor for people, who did not seem to be guests of the hotel, smoking pot in the parking lot and hanging out right outside the lobby - this did not create a comforting or safe-feeling environment to me. The room was OK, but attention to detail is needed: The bath towels were tired and frayed. I felt that dust was an issue. The wall-mounted bath liquid dispensers in the shower did not operate properly. The windows in my room (3rd floor) were very dirty. Again, the staff we encountered, very friendly.

You have to like this hotel for its location and fine staff. The room seemed dark due to its furniture and paint, and outside roof air handler’s contributed to some noise. The staff was very helpful with a well organized list of walking distance restaurants. Breakfast was well done if you enjoy traditional items and coordinated by a well organized lady and staff. Easy place to stay.

Staff is very unprofessional and rude. Will charge you for extra nights even when they don’t have rooms available. When confronted about it, the worker gets an attitude. I wasn’t even in the office when they charged me for the room that I was currently packing up.

We only needed a one-night stay for a stop-over; this spot was perfect in every way. The room was spotless. We appreciated the full-sized refrigerator/freezer for the start of our 3 week road trip and the kitchen area even had a dishwasher! There was a nice variety of breakfast offerings and we appreciated that they started serving at 6 AM, as we had to be on the road early. Highly recommended.

I felt unsafe staying here as a single woman. During my stay, two different times I overheard security guards loudly discussing crimes that had happened in the rooms that day, including men who refused to leave the premises after committing the crimes. The guests are not your typical business traveler or family. Some were friendly but a lot seemed completely unaware of basic courtesies of shared spaces. For instance, two different times I tried to depart the elevator into the lobby and guests blocked my ability to exit. I said excuse me hoping they’d shuffle out of my way but they didn’t budge, making me skirt around them and have to bump into their wheelchair/walker. The common areas have stained carpets and often had spills on them. The elevator smelled like vomit upon my arrival. When I left the next morning it seemed to have been cleaned up. I went to use the exercise facility and my key card wasn’t working for it. I tried to find an employee to help but nobody was there. When he did come back he was courteous to me. He got me a new key card but that still didn’t open the exercise facility. He had to manually open it and then leave the door open. The equipment is completely rusted and did not look safe to use. So I exercised in my room instead. I didn’t confirm this, but it seems that this hotel is being used to house transient populations. I admire the attempt to solve a significant societal issue. But I also don’t think this should be done at the expense of the feelings of safety of paying guests. I think at a minimum, the hotel should be notifying guests that this is occurring so they can choose alternative lodging.

This was the most disgusting place my family and I have every stayed at. I will NEVER choose a HJ. The floors were sticky with globs of goo type spots almost like spit, there were ants on floor in bathroom, rips in bed-skirt, disgusting stains on bedspread, long hairs greeted me when i pulled covers back, body fluids on ever single bathroom wall. We immediately canceled our second night. Online it stated breakfast..light or to-go type, on the way out they said sorry..covid..no breakfast. Of course. we checked in pretty late so had to stay, glad we had our own blankets. we didn't unpack a thing and let food go bad as to not touch the fridge. This was 100% unacceptable. You have been warned.
