Welcome to the malaria-free Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, a three-hour scenic drive from Cape Town to the heart of the Little Karoo, along the Route 62 – the world’s longest wine route. At the foot of the towering Warmwaterberg Mountains, Sanbona boasts 58, 000 hectares of sculpted Cape Fold Mountains, wide-open Karoo plains, indigenous flora and fauna and rare examples of San rock art, some dating back more than 3, 500 years. More than a Big 5 wilderness reserve, it’s the vastness of the landscape, the alluring stillness and isolation amid raw beauty and boundless plains that make Sanbona unique. Explore a wilderness sanctuary in the Western Cape while staying at your choice of three luxurious lodges or a back-to-nature Explorer Camp adventure, each of which is surrounded by ancient folded mountains and endless vistas. Please note that Sanbona is a private reserve and booking in advance is essential. Rates are inclusive of all meals, two game drives per day, bush walks, game drive beverages, tourism levy and VAT.
My wife and I spent the most memorable two nights here. The tented lodges were amazing, under a canvas roof but with five star luxury inside. We particularly liked our own private and secluded deck with hot tub. The food was exceptional, both buffet and hot plated breakfast, three course lunch and dinner all served to our table. The drives were amazing and although we often had to travel to locate some of the big five (especially the lions) it was all the more special the more special when you found them in their vast natural habitat. Chris our guide was great. Lots if interesting information and made a brilliant barman when serving our sundowner drinks. We would thoroughly recommend this game reserve. The attention to detail, service and friendliness are first class but also the ethical conservation programme makes this safari very special.

Nestled on the foothills of the majestic Langeberg Mountain range Situated in Montagu, the heart of Route 62, and just two hours from Cape Town, Mimosa Lodge is the perfect place to relax, unwind and explore. Better known for their fine hospitality and superb cuisine, Mimosa is a must visit. Mimosa’s Multiple Award-Winning Restaurant is renowned for its superb cuisine, the emphasis is on local, fresh seasonal produce.
The lodge provides beautiful accommodations, where history seamlessly collides with modern conveniences and décor in a stylish yet understated manner. We enjoyed our room and were in want of nothing. The staff are however your highlight. We were warmly greeted by the radiant smile of Bisa (spelling) despite her not feeling too well, I believe. The rest of the team took very good care of us as well and made us feel at home in your little piece of heaven – Jodene, Jessica, Carmen and Roman???(I forget his name – the duty manager on Sunday??) Their service during dinner was also top-notch. Then, to Chef Bernhard, all I can say is WOW!! I enjoy a good steak when dining out, but everything I’ve tasted prior to Sunday evening pales in comparison. Firstly, the presentation and the carving of the steak at our table was a first for us and made the meal all the more special. My mind was blown with every bite of the perfectly grilled steak. Our side dishes were excellent too – onion rings and fried chips are taken to new heights in your kitchen. The portion sizes at your restaurant are very generous and surpass expectations. Needless to say, we rolled out of the restaurant, feeling satisfied and happy that we got to experience The Grill Room. We had a wonderful stay. I cannot wait to incorporate Mimosa Lodge and The Grill Room into my next trip design. I want the world to experience the joy of Karoo hospitality. Your team are true ambassadors for tourism in SA and should be given credit for this. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts

Fabulous little cottage with incredible mountain and Olive Grove views. Loved the extra touches like the ready to light fireplace & Charlotte Rhys products in the giant shower opening onto the garden. The staff went out of their way ( thanks for the Almond Milk in our fridge) and many little extra courtesies! Felt recharged after 4 nights here. Enjoyed the mountain biking ( good bikes available), incredible bird life & feeding the donkeys. We were delighted to see the Ostriches pass by the one morning as we were enjoying a cup of Nespresso on our patio.

Gorgeous cottage style accomodation. Spotlessly clean. Very good shower. Great wifi. Kitchen and personal braii area had all the essentials meaning we could cook for ourselves, but also a very short walk to some great local restaurants. Dave the owner was a great host, happy to recommend places to go both in Montague and our onward road trip. The gardens surrounding the accomodation were also gorgeous. Shady and beautifuly quiet at night. And the pool was a welcome addition for an afternoon dip post hiking/climbing. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Montague.

We had a lovely stay at House of Pinardt! Our room was stunning, with good-quality bedding and a very nice, modern bathroom. There is a shared kitchen area that we used to make coffee, but there were coffee things in our room as well. The guest house is situated in a stunning old house that has been beautifully restored and modernised, and we had everything we needed.

Andre and Jackie are truly great hosts who creates a relaxed chilled environment. The archery was so lekker, we had so many laughs with Andre, making us feel comfortable in doing something that none of us had done before. COVID19 protocols was at top of the list of priorities making us feel safe. The location is something that we cannot get over, if you want a getaway that is truly in the mountains but still close to Cape Town, then Assegaai Rest Camp is the best place. Thank you Andre and Jackie

Stylish Self-Catering Accommodationin the Wineland as well as a small camp site (20 sites) bordering the Breede River. Explore the area from this riverside, rural getaway in the country. Swim, fish, canoe in the Breede River or relax at the swimming pool in the vineyards.
I booked for Dec 2020. I landed a new job (at age 60!) and cannot fulfill my booking. I contacted them last month - a full 4 months in advance and requested my deposit be refunded. They flatly refuse!!!!! They WILL however be able to sell my plot as it is high season but no! I am not even allowed to transfer my booking. Bad bad bad. Will never support them again.

On the steep hill, the border of Kanonkop reserve and above the town centre of Montagu, along the R62, inspired by European monasteries and African traditional the environmentally and ecological responsible Mountain View Lodge Montagu was erected in 2013. Relax in total privacy while enjoying our spectacular mountain views. Just above the town centre of Montagu, still within walking distance, Mountain View Lodge in Montagu is almost completely concealed from the street, this means privacy, relaxation and a 24h monitored and secure location. The multiple Eco-Award winning property features an outdoors seasonal heated swimming pool and a deck which overlooks the town and valley. Each of the seven individually decorated room has garden views. They come equipped with a king-size bed, a fan, a dressing and a safety deposit box. The private bathroom has a shower with free toiletries. Hairdryers are available. The lodge is recognised and awarded as an ECO- Friendly accommodation.
An absolute nightmare. Owner/manager rude. The photos are misleading, because it does not reflect the present state of rooms, building, and also no breakfast or restaurant! Not value for the money spent. I absolutely will not recommend this lodge, because there are so many beautiful and well equip place in Montagu.
