We usually don’t eat twice at the same restaurant, but this was an exception. The menu was somewhat limited for Mexican dishes. My wife had the rainbow trout special and fish soup and seasonal vegetables. I had chopped steak with sautéed mushrooms and onion gravy—very flavorful! I chose chili and the vegetables as the two sides and was happy with my choice. For our second dinner there, we had grilled scallops, rainbow trout and, again, pineapple seasoned rolls and cornbread. We finished off the meal with apple pie a la mode. Everything was delicious and service was good. Interesting art work adorned the walls

The first thing a person should do is to order the puffy nachos for an appetizer or order something that has the Puffy Tacos. This is one of their specialties. The food is all good. It is not as cheap as some places, but it is worth it. There was a Caro's in Fort Worth, which I had never eaten at but, it closed and has reopened as Don Juan's which has retained the Puffy Tacos. The one in Rio Grande City is the original. I recommend it hardily.

Located in downtown Rio Grande City this place has the best down home cooking in town. I had the hamburger steak and with was very good. Never had it with refried beans and spanish rice before...but what do you expect. Great service and wonderful atmosphere.

Great place to eat and great atmosphere. The food is delicious with reasonable prices. They have a great variety of mix drinks.

It was close to our hotel, a plus in terms of avoiding much night driving on arrival and feeling tired. We chose lighter fare: chicken margarita and grilled chicken salad, neither of which had much flavor. The salsa was rather watery and the tortilla chips were not particularly fresh. The next two nights we had better meals at Casa de Adobe.

I have grown up on Rio Cafe food. This is a privately owned, mom and pop shop. The food is made fresh EVERY day. The same cook for years, and her food is SO good! You need to call ahead to reserve a table and order your plate. They only made so many plates each day, and when they are out, they are done for the day. The only have two menu items every day, so call ahead to find out. Tuesdays is usually chicken fried steak...OMG SO YUMMY. and Friday is all about their chicken enchiladas! So good! The inside of the restaurant is always decorated so cute! Wonderful place.

Seriously this place should be a tourist attraction . It is a small roadside joint but I have n3ver been dissapointed here. The food is always fresh and homemade and so is the lemonade. The real shocker is the " sincronizadad " Yes that is how it is spelled on the menu. Giant flour tortilla filled with beans, melted motzerella cheese and stuffed with beef fajita. Don't know if any other place that offers such an awesome menu item. For me this place is a must when passing thru Rio Grande city .

I stayed at Rio grande for a weeding. The pizza was a mile from the place i stayed. I used the app to order it. They were fast, when i got there they already had my order and pizza was good. I also got the barbecue wings and those are good.

This is what we use to call a little hole in the wall. We were driving by, we were hungry, and saw the cars in the parking lot. Cute place, good service and really good Mexican homecooking. The waitress/owner was kind enough to explain the things I didn't recognize on the menu. Made in the kitchen tortilla chips and salsa (spicy) and full sized portions. We left full and happy. The restaurant was full of locals, which is always a good sign.
