Find out what Italian restaurants to try in Idar-Oberstein. Idar-Oberstein is a town in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. As a Große kreisangehörige Stadt (large town belonging to a district), it assumes some of the responsibilities that for smaller municipalities in the district are assumed by the district administration. Today’s town of Idar-Oberstein is the product of two rounds of administrative reform, one in 1933 and the other in 1969, which saw many municipalities amalgamated into one. The various Stadtteile have, however, retained their original identities, which, aside from the somewhat more urban character encountered in Idar and Oberstein, tend to hearken back to each centre’s history as a rural village. Idar-Oberstein is known as a gemstone town, and also as a garrison town. It is also the largest town in the Hunsrück and has a population of 32,001 (December 31, 2015).

not a lot open in off season and we ended up in this little italian near the Idar-Oberstein museum for dinner. Pizza was good and the home made pasta was fabulous. Large portions. Would recommend highly.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, has the right atmosphere and centrally located in the historical centre of the town. The owner is very charming and kind. The menu offers a wide variety of items. One of my table companions asked for a change to his pasta dish, which wasn't a problem at all. I ordered tagliatelle with salmon in a white wine tomato sauce. The sauce was very nice, but the tagliatelle was overcooked and the salmon was almost tasteless.

La Piazza is a delightful Italian restaurant. The owner and his wife do a superb job of making everybody feel special and welcome. The food is wonderful! My husband loves the pizza --- it is crispy and generously topped with wonderful "goodies." I love the eggplant parmesan... But, also enjoy their pastas and pizzas. A delightful evening with good food every time we go.

Italian restaurant which also does a few assorted German style schnitzels. Inside is typically old fashioned German decor but comfortable enough. I ate here a number of times and the food was good overall and good value. I was fortunate to experience a warm sunny evening here so sat in their outside area in the central square enjoying a beer and pizza unfortunately you have to share this area with the numerous, stinking smokers! Overall a good average Italian restaurant, worth a visit.
