Reviews on Italian food in Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Two thousand years of history have lent Mainz a cosmopolitan air, and museums and cathedrals of various architectural styles dot the city. Bring home a book as a souvenir—Gutenberg worked here, and the museum dedicated to him is a highlight.

Family owned and well located in the old quarter, with very good terrace ambiance. The tortelloni with spinach was excellent. Afterward the latte macchiato was the best I've had outside of Italy. The service was courteous and attentive. Informal and friendly for solos, couples and families.

First, it's way off the beaten path and if you don't know Mainz....pull out the GPS. It's on the far south end of the city. Parking within the property is limited to five or six cars, so prepare to find a place along the street. As for the garden, it is a very well landscaped garden area with umbrellas and a terrific place to entertain friends or clients. Food is absolutely Sicilian in nature and the staff are the BEST that you will find in any Mainz restaurant. Authentic dishes....great salad....decent wine list. Pricing reasonable. Reservations are probably mandatory for Friday or Saturday evening. Would strongly recommend the place but it's nowhere near the river front and about tens minutes from the autobahn.

This place is take-away only. You phone to order and then pick up your pizza, pasta, salad, etc. Or you order on site and wait. It is pretty quick, though, except when there are too many people with impatient young men, impolitely jumping the queue, which is what I observed. The pizza is nice and succulent (i.e. not exactly fat-free) but I was missing a more succinct taste. The different pizzas tasted very similarly, which is why I give only 3 points. Will I be back? Maybe. If you like pizzas a lot you should be back.

This small restaurant is ideal for the days ending. The extensive menu pleases any taste bud and be personalised to your likings. Giovanni is great company and makes good recommendations.I've visited this place with friends for many years.A perfect finishing would be the tiramisu.

This small restaurant is right in the heart of old town Mainz. The area is full of restaurants so we stumbled over it after trying a few others on our way to get some food. Very good service and as they didn't have any English version of the short lunch menu one of the waiters helped with the translation. If you want a quiet lunch then this bustling place where you here every pot and Pan in the kitchen is not for you. We liked the bistro style. We took a 2 course dinner with a good minestrone soup and a pasta dish. A place to go with friends or family who doesn't mind a little noise.

Based on past experience we decided to return to Trattoria Peperoncino for dinner and we were not disappointed. Although a cool September evening we sat outside for our dinner. Our server was a most engaging young lady who helped us navigate the menu and was a complete joy to be around. For starters I had a cream of broccoli soup which was extremely decadent in flavour and taste. My partner had the mouth watering scallops as a starter and we shared the bruschetta which had very fresh tomatoes with a rich balsamic reduction. For my main I had the special ravioli that had a rich sauce with chestnuts infused with truffle oil. My partner had a home made spaghetti which was enjoyed immensely. You will not be disappointed as service was first rate and a kitchen that is overseen by a highly talented owner. Not to be disappointed I would highly recommend reservations as this is a quality restaurant!

One of the best pizzas we've had in Italy. Fresh ingredients, thin crust. Price is very reasonable, lots of choices to pick from. We ate outside on the patio.

Here with local friends, our group numbered six. The meal was leisurely paced definitely not rushed. Very welcoming environment if not a bit crowded and noisy. Extensive menus with enough options for us vegetarians. I was not to keen on my entree because the salmon was fishy but everything else was nice. The service was better than the food with highly polished professional waiters. Prices were moderate but there were a a few costly menu items that nobody at our table ordered. Next time I would avoid the fish but otherwise it's a keeper.

Il Mondo has excellent service and a very friendly staff. The atmosphere is great and most importantly, the food is amazing. I had the beef tartar to start and then the Pizza Mama Mia which is spicy just as advertised. But if youâre a little bit crazy and need it to be spicier, they will be happy to take care of you.
